Mad librarian chick, reprise - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Mad librarian chick, reprise
Okay, last interference from real life, though it's at least fandom related.

We have a growing Somali community where I am, and a group of Somali teens came for a tour. They wanted to learn English, but also wanted to read in Somali, particularly Harry Potter, which they assumed (pretty logically) would be available in Somali, if it was available in Latin, since at least Somali is a living language.

Now, this turns out to be somewhat flawed, as lots of people do speak Latin, even if it is a dead language. And I wrote to Christopher Little Literary Agency--the translation rights in Somali were never sold, so there is no legal version of HP in Somali.

But the thing is, we've barely found anything. I know Mogadishu isn't in great shape for producing a lot of books, but isn't someone doing Somali publishing? I know I have librarians on my f-list... has anyone else found a good Somali-language publisher?

This should get you started. The second link looks promising.

Excellent. Here's me, trying "publishers" and even "outsourcers." Leave it to someone who overthinks to forget "books"!

Came in from friendsfriends. I hope I can help.

Not a librarian, but simply a local library user. You may want to take a look in the Minneapolis Public Library catalog. I do know that they do have Somali interpreters on staff, which seems to indicate that they carry Somali books.
