Good one, guys! - The Phantom Librarian

Good one, guys!
Now, that was a meet! I feel kind of bad for China, with so much riding on them, going home totally empty-handed. But the US won its first medal in an unboycotted Olympics since 1932 (silver) and Japan got the gold back for the first time since 1976. So both teams, in a very real way, won big. The Romanians put up a good show, too--it could have been them right up to the last rotation. I like it like that. :)

How much did the US and Japanese guys rock on the high bar?

And on a more prurient note, male gymnasts really are lovely, lovely to look at. The sport is great for even, smooth muscle development.

The after-event interviews this year are nice and gracious. I've seen them with Allen Iverson and Paul Hamm now, and both of them acknowledge that the team beating them simply played better. The gymnasts sincerely applauded Japan for being amazing, and said that they deserved the win. I like that so much better than trash talk.

And I'm totally loving the olive wreaths on the podia. I want them for all Olympics from now on.

I was, at some point, going to list all the things I appreciate that we've inherited from Greece. But then you realize that it's not just having a great playwright like Sophocles, but having drama itself. How cool is that?

I was listening to David Brudnoy on the radio this evening. He was talking about the Olympics as the one sports event he regularly watched. (paraphrasing:) "Sorry, governor, but the Winter Olympics don't do much for me. If I'm going to watch sports, I prefer the participants to be naked -- or as close to that as possible." <grin>

Ah, yes. The real reason we all become so obsessed with swimming and men's gymnastics once every four years. ;D

They are amazing, aren't they? Though in terms of sheer eye candy, the swimmers easily have them beat. ;)

Agreed on the olive wreaths - some may call them silly-looking, but it's a nice throwback to the original Olympic days, and IMO, they just work. It just feels like it makes sense to have the athletes wear them.

I'm totally with you on the olive wreaths. The first set of medalists I saw wearing them gave me goosebumps. It really gives you a sense of history and the importance of the location.

And yes, the men's gymnastics is really something incredible to watch. Although when I watch them do Rings, it makes my arms ache.

One of my favorite things on a man is a nice set of shoulders...and oh, the gymnasts have those in abundance! Sigh...

Amen to that.
Speaking of which, have you -seen- the South African swimming team.
Like...woah (I can't think of a better word, the thought has made my brain go numb)

Word to the olive wreaths - I love them! I hope some wise IOC person decides to keep them, because they look great.

The high bar was amazing, as were the parallel bars. There was just all-around good stuff last night, and I was happy with the results.

Muscles? I KNOW. I seriously fangirl the Hamm twins . . . not to mention Ian Thorpe and Michael Phelps. :>!
