Tonksing it - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Tonksing it
Ladies and gentlemen, I now know why I identify with Tonks. In fact, this morning, I pulled one that might leave even Dora going, "Um... how'd you manage that?"

My alarm went off. I stepped out of bed to turn it off. And somehow or other rolled my ankle, spraining it badly and fracturing the top of my heel bone (around the place where it goes around the ankle to the top of the foot). I just got back from about eight hours in the ER (fifteen minute doctor consultations or test punctuated by two and three hour waits, topped off by my first ever crutch lesson).

You know, someone brilliant enough to hurt herself getting out of bed probably shouldn't be trusted on crutches.

Ouch, that's not good. Hope you are doing ok, and that it heals up quickly and cleanly.

How long do they figure you'll be on the crutches?

Ow! Don't hurt yourself with the crutches, now.

I recently got tortilla chip in my eye, so I can totally relate to the "how the heck did you manage to do that?"

Ouch! I hope you're doing okay -- well, as okay as can be expected.

I'm a Tonks myself. I regularly run into doors and walls.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Owchies. I have a scar on the back of my hand caused by my clumsiness - I tripped and fell and while nothing was broken, I got a bad scrape which left a scar. I know how you (and Tonks) feel.

Do you have a cute werewolf around to kiss it and make it better? ;)
delleve From: delleve Date: August 21st, 2004 03:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
Ouch. Hope it heals quickly and you master the crutches like no one's business. ;)

I'm a bit of a Tonks sometimes as well. I always manage to trip over things that aren't really even in my walking path. Don't even ask how I manage to do that.

But, on the positive side, more time of sitting in front of the computer!

As several others have said, "Ouch!"

What a way to start your morning! I know how the "roll your ankle" thing goes, but so far I've never managed to do myself more damage than landing on my handsnknees in public.

I hope the crutches treat you kindly.

*high fives*
I also pulled a TONKS on Thursday morning.. managed to spectacularly fall down then stairs. Though in my case nothing is fractured or ruptured just blue and swollen. But to fall down the way I did was definitely Tonks like. I could have easily prevented it.. had I used my HANDS. *hitsself*

Get well soon.. and watch those crutches.. not that you poke yourself in the eye with them. ;)

Ouchies! My ankle hurts just thinking about it. Take care with the crutches... I remember you doing best at walking... when awake.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry, Fern. I hope it doesn't hurt too much and that you heal quickly. Be sure to keep it elevated and spend lots of time off of it... you could... um... err... write loads of Shifts chapters. :)

Get Well Soon!

Thanks everyone! That was nice to log back in to.

The ankle doesn't hurt too much at present--I'm under total non-weightbearing orders, so nothing much stings. I'm mostly feeling embarrassed, and a bit chagrined, as I'll have to stay out of work for at least a week; there's no way to do my job totally on crutches (lots of squatting and walking people around). That leaves a bit of a lurch, as we're a bit short-staffed. I go in for a follow up visit next week. Hopefully, it will heal quickly.

mrs_who, I actually started the next Shifts scene during the interminable waiting at the hospital. Didn't get very far. Dudley took me by surprise as well as Remus, and I've got to figure out where I'm going.

Oh dear. I hope you get better soon.

My Tonksy moment was the time I stuck my hand through a pane of glass. I was trying to open a stuck door and didn't have any shoes to kick it with. I got the bright idea of getting a runninng start with my arm out in front of me, totally forgetting about the glass panes in the door. I ended up with 26 stitches, but the door did open after that . . .

Good work! *applaud* Now, try not to kill yourself with the crutches -- I was on crutches with two broken feet once, and nearly broke my arm as well when I failed to notice a loose screw...

Have you been taking lessons from me?

Once I stood up and didn't stop at the perpendicular, ended up with 3 broken toes.

Hope you get better soon, I know how it feels to leave others short.

Ouch! I'm the queen of klutz so I can emphathize. My dad broke his leg on some ice last winter...it took him a while to get used to crutches. Hope it heals quickly.

Well, on the plus side.....you have a built-in excuse to write more fanfiction now. Not as though you'd be all that effective at housework, etc.

Do what you do best.

sonetka From: sonetka Date: August 22nd, 2004 09:07 pm (UTC) (Link)

I doubt I can say anything that hasn't been said before, but have a good, safe recovery and all that - I'm really sorry you had such a rotten thing happen to you. Stay comfortable, and please don't feel too pressured about the fanfic - it's lovely to read it, but don't neglect your therapy or anything for it - we understand :).
quiller77 From: quiller77 Date: August 25th, 2004 11:47 am (UTC) (Link)
Just back from holidays. Sorry to hear about your injury. I can identify, having once torn knee cartiledge when I stood up. (Sitting on chairs is very hazardous, especially if you're silly enough to always tuck the one leg underneath your butt -- something I no longer do). Anyway, hope you heal fast.
