It's fun to write Harry this way. He's very different because his socialization didn't get stunted by the Dursleys, but he's still -- to me, anyway -- recognizably Harry. I think he and Ron are both put off by Hermione's nervous swottiness more than anything else, just like Neville is completely overwhelmed by it. She needs to chill out a little bit, and they need to recognize that it's just a nervous tic. :D
Neville is a very neat character, and I think a lot of that was foreshadowed in the first book, with the points he earned for telling off the heroes -- not because he was right (or wrong), but because that took a radical level of guts.
