Snagged from apocalypsos and a member of her friends' list I forgot to copy-paste the name of.

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

I'm doing snippets, not sentences. 'Cause I feel like it. These are original, but I'm certainly not posting anything long enough to make them "published." I hope.

The Redeemed
Death came gently to Maren Uteshi.

There was pain, of course. The stones had crushed his ribcage as they fell, and his right arm was broken badly. But the sun was warm on his face, his niece Inali was before him, her blue eyes glinting in the sun, beyond the shadow of the falling stones, and he knew that, for the first time in many years, he had done the right thing. He was at peace with himself, and when death came, he slipped eagerly into its guarded darkness.

Life, on the other hand, returned in torment.

Fishgirl Crosses the River (original, SF)
It was a perfectly legal pissdip in Kenmore Square.

Untitled (original, fantasy)
There had been a bridge once. Everyone said so.

The Gods In Time (original, fantasy; context, upon finding the ruins of an ancient town)
There were tiny etchings on the stone, some of them starting to wear away. She started tracing them.

"It's just a signpost," Milek said.

Alitza looked up; he was standing behind her, looking over her shoulder. "A what?"

"A signpost." He pointed to the etching. "It's writing. No one uses it anymore. That just says the town is Esyet."

"How do you know?"

"I was born here."

Promised Land
Text: The home of Project Mayflower, thirty minutes later.

Aviva is leading Kyle and Aaron around, going toward the main gate. There are several families milling around the pods, children playing in the concrete yards.

As you can see, we've gotten into the habit of keeping the pods stocked and ready to go, as soon as you give the word from Washington.

To tell the truth, it looks like you're ready to go with or without word from Washington.

Aviva gives Kyle an odd look...

Insert quiet whimpering here.

I really hope you actually get Redemption finished and published, because the author and title alone are enough to make me desperately want to read it.

Oh, I do rather like those extracts. Especially The Redeemed and The Gods in Time. The bits you've posted certainly whet the appetite.
