EDIT: Just randomly entering ages, it looks to me like the median at LJ is around 19.

Uh, no. My result is much sadder, and further out on that end of the bell curve. :(

Well, at least we're not in the "Internet is for the kids" bunch. There are times I want to shake people my age and say, "Do you know what's out there?"

Seriously? I didn't know you were the same age as me... we can be "kind of sad" together, I guess. :)

I actually like being our age. 1970 was a darned good year to be born. It's just weird to spend so much time with so many people younger than we are. Being at the top edge of the bell curve on age is a new experience!

18 appears to be modal.

Here is a pretty graph of the age distribution if you're interested. The largest user group appears to be 16-19-year-olds. Although that seems to be the stats over the entire user base, not considering multiple accounts or inactive accounts.

Oo, thanks!

If you're feeling really geeky, here's a post on the mathematics community discussing the statistical significance of LJ's age distribution. *g*

Mmm... Math. :D

Mmm, I was never good enough at math to figure statistics; I just love graphs and numbers and so on. One thing on that page I also find interesting is the female to male ratio--as at work (I'm a librarian), I seem to be in the wrong hobby for meeting guys... it's almost 2-1 female advantage here. Which is kind of odd for a techy medium, but a good sign that younger girls are into tech.

Yikes, 78% percent are younger than I am... and I'm only 23!!!

I just noticed that it gives a count of how many people are the same age as you -- and, Fern, it says that TEN THOUSAND LJ users are the same age that you are.

Of course, now my mind is boggling over just how many LJ users there must be if ten thousand users don't even make up a single percent of the population.

*is quite amused*

Erm, but telling you in experience, that seems so much better than finding out that 74% of LiveJournal is older than you. Really.

I like younger people. Good thing, too, judging by the numbers... :)
pookizegreat From: pookizegreat Date: November 7th, 2004 02:32 pm (UTC) (Link)
xD Well yeah, to be fair I like older people, so I guess overall we should be glad.

I'm older than 98% of the account holders -- at least if they were telling the truth about their ages, and they don't have too many multiple accounts.

Ouch. I'm in the same boat--80 something of the fandom is younger than me.
