High school meme
Snagged from fionaphoenix, who appears to be my age. Yay.

(Er, editing to block out names...)
What years were you in high school?
1984 – 1988

What were your three favourite bands/musicians?
I wasn't big into music, but I liked Cyndi Lauper had to know a good bit of Duran Duran to converse with a friend of mine. I generally had quirky tastes and listened to my mother's albums (Beatles, Supremes) or odd stuff like An Evening With John Denver. Though I did like Miss Julie Brown's "'Cause I'm A Blond!," which we all thought was about a male friend. In fact, the one who called me a few days ago out of the blue, which I posted about. And of course, I, like everyone, had Thriller.

What was your favourite outfit?
Black leggings, unnatural purple sweater with black designs, and lace-up boots.

What was up with your hair?
Tried to feather it, but it grew too fast. Tried to perm it and looked like a poodle. Mostly had it the same as I have it now, which is to say, just long. Though I did like to try and get a high top-knot ponytail from time to time.

Who were your best friends?
J__, K___, chienar, K2___, L___, the other K___, M_____, A____, H_____... I'm missing someone (I'm sure another single initial with underscores would thrill you all). A bunch of us all paid to have a portrait taken together to give to our Odyssey of the Mind coach. I had the pocket size version taped to my wall through college, but I don't know where it is now.

What did you do after school?
Drama club practice, OM practice, hanging out in the drama club advisor's classroom, hanging out in the guidance office (our OM coach was the guidance counsellor), select chorus, or sometimes the library. Or Jen's house, which was close to the school.

Did you take the bus?
No, I walked, unless one of my neighbors took pity on me and gave me a ride for a couple of miles. Until junior year, when K2___ got his license and drove me in his Subie. Unless we decided to skip and watch videos, which of course we never did.

Who did you have a crush on?
J2___(came out in college, I think). And another person who was already out. No one else in HS, though my first elementary school crush was around until tenth grade.

Did you fight with your parents?
Not inordinately.

Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?
Corey Haim... sigh. ETA, also Sean Astin. Back from Goonies days. I crushed on him hard enough to read his mother's autobiography in the hopes of stories.

Did you smoke cigarettes?
Never.

Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?
No. I generally forgot to bring them and ended up looking at one of my friends' copies.

Did you have a 'clique'?
Drama club, which doubled as the Odyssey of the Mind team and was a big subset of select chorus. Pretty hefty crossover with visual arts people, too, and a cordially friendly relationship with the math and science folk, since most of us at least had a reasonably good aptitude. All of those people totalled around fifteen all together.

Did you have "The Max" like Zach, Kelly and Slater?
Who are these people? If this is a place to hang out... Jen's garage. It was our evening club.

Admit it, were you popular?
:no answer except for mad gales of laughter:

Lord, I was despised.

Who did you want to be just like?
There was no one in particular. It was my hippie phase and I had a general idea of looking granola.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
An actress. Oh, how I wanted to be an actress. I started writing largely because there were no parts to play. When K2___ told me in his miffed and annoyed way that I was a good enough actress to do local semi-pro stuff a couple of weeks ago (I doubt I am; I haven't done it in so long I've probably lost what marginal talent I had), it still made me feel an itch to get back out there. That a fat girl (whose interest in losing weight was nil) had no chance at real roles didn't occur to me as a serious obstacle. The part I wanted above all others was that of Luke and Leia's mother when the SW back story came out. :stares daggers at NP: ;)

Where did you think you'd be at the age you are now?
I would have an Oscar or two (for both writing and acting), three or four kids, a movie star husband, a chauffeur, a live-in maid and two houses, one in the city and the other on the beach. That was on my really good days. I would also be in People's Most Beautiful list every year . On my worst days, I figured I'd have only a couple of kids, a nice husband, and a decent little house, and be working on my more ambitious goals. (Okay, I never thought specifically, "When I'm thirty-five..." but as a general idea of where I'd be in my mid-thirties, that was about it. Winding down after a big push, to settle in and enjoy my successes through my forties. Being in an entry level job, living with a roommie to share expenses, and still taking public transit never once crossed my mind.)

Hear, hear!! Do you think it's an obstacle to a career in musical theatre?? ...oh. Well, probably not publishing, then. :)

They're from Saved by the Bell. And yeah, the Max was the place.

Ah. After my time. I've seen bits of a re-run and, er, didn't think much of it.

Many of us who grew up with it didn't think much of it, either...

I actually was not allowed to watch SbtB, but such is my love for trivia (thank you, Trivial Pursuit and "I Love the '80s") that I know really random bits of information like that.

You're the third person on my flist that didn't know this reference. But I won't say anything because the other two people chased me with their canes and walkers. *snerk* (Their words, not mine!) XD

Yeah, you don't want to mess with me. I remember my Goonies and may invent rocket propelled Dentures of Doom.

Ooh, neat! :) I did one myself, even though I technically am a teen still, and will be one till March.

... you graduated the year I was born.

... *feels very very small*

Hm.

I run into that "I'm old" moment pretty regularly working with teens. I realized during the presidential election that I was having a perfectly sane conversation about the candidates who was born the year I graduated from college and voted in my first presidential election. (I could have voted in '88, but I'd just changed states and had no idea how to do the absentee voting thing.) Sadly, I don't feel any older now than I did then. And any hope I had of ever feeling like a grown-up was dashed when my 86-year-old grandmother said that she more or less feels exactly the same as she did when she was a girl.

xD Good. I never wanted to grow up anyways. Glad I won't.

This meme reminds me that almost everyone on my flist is older than I am. Dude. I was a baby when you were graduating. (makes me feel sort of inferior.)

I also feel like such a baby when looking at this meme. I was eight months old when fernwithy would've graduated, and SBTB was one of my first TV shows.

I was absolutely obsessed with Saved by the Bell as a kid (my mother actually commented on it just a few weeks ago), but I wouldn't have been able to name their hangout if someone asked me out of the blue. It only "rang a bell" by figuring out the context of it. (sorry, couldn't help the pun!)
