Spewing out too many words since November 2003

Bleh.
I had two people sign the guestbook at Vader's Mask today, one of whom was worried that I'd dropped off the face of the Earth.

It's been fifteen months since I updated. Every time I sit down to do it, I think of a million other things to do.

It's not that I've lost interest in Star Wars or in Vader; I just don't have a lot new to say. And yet, I still haven't gone in and added The Ascension of the Queen, and it's been done for quite awhile now. Maybe I should re-do the whole site sometime, just change the feel of it. Maybe I should expand it and put all my fics there. I don't know. Why in the world have I backed off on the Mask? I loved putting it together, love hosting it, love having an intellectual Vader site. But I don't like looking around for new fics, and it takes some courage for me to beg artists for art (what can I say, I feel unworthy around artists). And I do my essays here these days. :)

I've gotten fascinated with the Harry Potter universe. It happened very abruptly, and over a period of about three weeks, I left active Star Wars fandom, after four years of bordering on Big Name Fan status. (Not quite there, but I was a mod at TFN and a very prolific fanfic writer; when I run my pseud through google, it's mostly SW that shows up. Oh, and hey... the Mask was featured in the Star Wars Insider.) Among my unfinished tasks:

Faces of the Gods: A story about how Shmi Skywalker was taken into slavery and eventually became Anakin's mother. I've gotten through the attack on her family's ship, the death of her beloved brother, the learning of Basic, and her first sale. And then I just stopped.

Coming Home: An AU, in which Anakin left the Order immediately after AotC, staying on Naboo with Padme. Against their better judgment, they send Luke off to the Temple when he's small. When Leia and Padme are both (apparently) killed in a manufactured plague, Anakin goes back to the Temple and takes Luke as his padawan, under the strict agreement that he will not reveal their actual relationship. You can guess how long Mr. No-I-Am-Your-Father keeps that promise. However, there's no time for recrimination--Obi-Wan has been infected, and master and padawan (their relationship redefined an hour ago) have to set out on a mission to find the cure before it's too late. And then I just left it. I know how it goes, too.

The True Order: Another AU, this time with Anakin having left the Order much earlier... two years after TPM. He went to Naboo, then back to Tatooine, where he tried to race for his mother's freedom and lost, losing his own in the process. He and Padme remain close and eventually he marries her (he's still a slave on Tatooine, so that's where she goes). Meanwhile, the same politics are playing out, and Palpatine purges the Order, only to be stopped by Obi-Wan, who becomes a paranoid freak. When the story properly starts (the previous stuff is told in flashbacks), Padme has been taken captive, Anakin has been killed by Obi-Wan, and Luke and Leia, slaves to Watto, are about to be freed. Leia wants to use her freedom to start a slave rebellion; Luke just wants the family back. Neither wants what the now-escaped Padme has in mind: to march straight into the Jedi Temple and rescue Yoda, who helped her, and be trained to face off against Kenobi's paranoid and dictatorial Order, which is now in control of the secular government as well. And I stopped.

I like all of those stories. It's just that every time I open them, I don't actually write them.

Why?????

Oh, well.

Okay, that was kind of pointless.

Just for a couple of memes in a totally different fandom:

WOW!!! You are a true blue fan, a real Constant
Reader! You've been reading Stephen King since
a tender young age (like me)! I bet you've seen
almost every movie, and you probably agree that
the books are always better. You own most or
all of his works. Some people out there think
we are almost as demented and insane as he is,
and that his stuff has surely rotted our
brains, but we know SK is a literary genius.

Which Stephen King character are you?

I wondered about those.

And if you ever do go back and finish 'Faces of the Gods' or 'Coming Home', I'll be the first to leave feedback (the fact that I seem to have dropped out of fandom lately notwithstanding.)

Meantime, I guess I'm getting a pretty good fix of your writing just lurking around here. ;)

I got the same result. I agree, the quiz was ridiculously easy.

But how cool is that image of Roland in front of the Tower?

First, never doubt that you are a SW BNF. Your stories and Vader's Mask are required reading for anyone who cares about reflexive, detailed, inspiring writing, with movement and plot a and development as well as romance and tragedy.

Second, I so understand you, because this happened to me too - the width and breadth of the HP fandom has just sucked me in, not to mention the sheer quality of many of the authors. Without comparing my writings to yours in any way, I have left "Hitchhiker" after 24 chapters thinking I really still care for my characters, but I can't somehow write them right now.

(BTW, I meant to ask - are all your WiPs up somewhere besides the TF.Net boards?)
