The pairings meme going around
Okay, I'm not much of a shipper, as you'll see. But here's how my prefs break down:

Harry Potter:
Harry/Ginny
Ron/Hermione
Remus/Tonks
Ted/Andromeda
Molly/Arthur
Percy/Penelope
James/Lily

My one weird one is that I really think it's plausible that Remus and Lily dated a bit at Hogwarts, something no one would particulary share with Harry. Nothing serious, just enough to make Remus uncomfortable with the topic.

Star Wars:
Anakin/Amidala
Han/Leia

Weird one: Lando/Sabe.

All my Jedi who aren't Anakin are celibate, including Luke, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Siri, and all my Jedi OCs.

Buffy:
Can absorb just about any ship. My favorite canon ships are Willow/Oz, Willow/Xander, and Buffy/Spike.

Other:
I have OCs that I've shipped with Frodo Baggins (LotR), Calvin Maker (The Tales of Alvin Maker), Peter Wiggin (Ender universe) and... actually, I think that's it.

Not a shipper.

For me, it's Anakin/Padmé and Han/Leia. I'm a boring canon 'ship kind of gal :).

Weird one: Lando/Sabe.

Oh yes - that was from "I'm You're What?", wasn't it? :) Those two did work surprisingly well together in that story.

I pretty much stick to canon too - HP is the one fandom that I might call an exception to that rule. And I really only have one or two pairings in all my fandoms that I actively 'ship.'

With the multitude of pairings they go through on BtVS/AtS, you pretty much have to be open-minded about them, or you'll go nuts. ;) (Except Willow/Kennedy. That one stinks to high heaven no matter how you look at it.) Look how insane the Buffy/Angel vs. Buffy/Spike vitriol-fests are: they make HP's ship debates look relatively tame.

With the HP ship wars on a book about young teenagers as vitriolic as they are, I decided a long time ago to just stay out of Buffy fandom except in the most peripheral way. (I read Slayage and have read a lot of academic essays about the show.) It struck me as very likely to be nasty. I like Spuffy for its thematic structre. I also liked Buffy/Angel for the same thing, though the themes are slightly different. In the end, I hope she ends up with whichever of them becomes human, so she can have fat grandchildren after she finishes baking.

But Willow/Kennedy has to go. I was so hoping Andrew would say, "Two hours out of Sunnydale, Willow looked up and realized she was dating a spoiled brat. She sent Kennedy packing and is now traveling alone."

Except for emails with a friend of mine, I've stayed out of Buffy discussion as well - but the lurking I've done on some boards shows some sheer insanity. It's as if neither the B/A nor the B/S fanatics can get over that the other ship was ever canon at some point, that whether they liked it or not, Buffy did/does have genuine emotional connections with both vampires, and they with her. I enjoy both Spuffy and B/A, though it wasn't until recently that Spuffy grew on me: it does start out unhealthy (his obsession and her using him) and the gratuitous sex scenes in season 6 grew tiresome, but it does result in a positive transformation for both - though it's Spike's transformation that fascinates me more.

But Willow/Kennedy has to go. I was so hoping Andrew would say, "Two hours out of Sunnydale, Willow looked up and realized she was dating a spoiled brat. She sent Kennedy packing and is now traveling alone."

Or she met up with some anaconda while she and Willow were traveling through South America... The first thing that occurred to my email friend when she heard Willow couldn't help Angel with Fred/Illyria because of being on another plane was that she went to that plane just to escape Kennedy. ;)

Aside of the sheer irritation Kennedy's character inspired, the relationship itself never seemed to have any real grounding: that was a beautiful thing about Willow/Tara, that from the beginning, before you knew either was a lesbian, you saw there was a genuine connection (wish I had a thesaurus handy to come up with a different phrase), not just "hey, these two are lesbians and lesbians are great for ratings, let's hook 'em up." I was surprised to hear she's still apparently with Kennedy - if anything was ever a rebound relationship, it was W/K.
