Neatness
cl1ffhanger and feylin17 tipped me off to this post from ladyjaida. I got mentioned in a Movie Magic article right near a write-up on Shoebox, along with pandoraculpa and Lady Draherm (and I'd guess a couple of others before, though that's not in the scanned part). I must be moving up in the world! ;)

Does anyone know who the reporter is? I'm curious.

You know I thought that was you! I was so hyped for Jaida that I forgot to ask, but congrats to you!

No I have no idea who the person is.

I'm glad of all attention paid to fanfic in the mainstream press, and if Shoebox is getting attention then people aren't writing about the fics from Summary Executions... in other words, they're paying attention to thought out and carefully written stuff, as opposed to writing about fanfic like three-headed dog syndrome--"Look! Middle-aged women writing gay porn!" I'm so glad to see articles that don't take that approach. For awhile, I thought that was all people were ever going to pay attention to.

And, really, I'm not thinking about what kind of spectacular thing I can do so that I get more than a fumbled cut-and-paste of my summary next time. I'm totally not that petty.
:p

lol yeah I quickly read the little snippet on Jaida's journal and I swear I thought "Is that Fernwithy???" I made a mental note to ask you and of course, my mind went blank when I started eating some chocolate later on, lol.

You really need to buy that issue, that's no small feat to be mentioned in a mag where MANY people will read it.

WB people are good people, I know our fandom is kinda scared of them but they really don't want to OMGSUE anyone, and they love fanfic just like the rest of us, at least the ones I know. :)

Yeah, I was actually wondering why "The Doll Army" got a couple of random reviews after several months without any. It may be a coincidence, or people may be dropping over. I'm glad that "Between the Bars" (an R/T fic, if it's the one I'm thinking of; I liked it very much) also got a nod. I'm all about power to the HMS WolvieWotcher. ;)

I think if WB were going to sue anyone, they'd have done it awhile ago. Same with Lucasfilm. I think, on the whole, that the entertainment world has stopped sputtering in indignant shock that fanfic exists, and is now saying, "Hey, wait... it maintains interest between official products, and the people who write the stuff are the same ones that buy it...!"

Heh, I'd laugh my ass off if it's because of my friend Michael who is a HUGE fan of fanfic. I'm sure there's plenty of WB people out there, but he's a big fan of a lot of stuff out there, heck he tells ME about stuff to read, lol.

Heh. congrats on getting mentioned, and yes, you're thinking of the right 'Between the Bars'. I'm so excited... now I know famous writers ;)

congrats again!

That is fully *awesome*. You need to fully frame that or something.

And I fully need to buy this magazine.

That's so awesome! I loved both "The Doll Army" and pandoraculpa's "Between the Bars", and it's wonderful seeing them mentioned to a wider audience.

Now I just need to find that magazine!

Very cool!

I agree with one of your comments, it's WONDERFUL to see a fanfic article focusing on well-thought out fanfiction instead of the extreme fringes.

I'm fighting the urge to go pick up the magazine and see what other fics have been recommended. Unfortunately, I just discovered this afternoon that my anti-shopping will power is extremely low right now, and Barnes & Noble is a FAR more dangerous place than the Target $1 aisle! Must... not... spend... Cairo... money......

I'm going to totally have to go get this magazine. Congrats! That's so totally awesome. Weren't you the one who said yesterday how cool our fandom was? Well, this is proof.

That is so amazing. Perhaps I should start telling people that I'm your number one fan--but then I'd die of shock when somebody understood me. :)

Congratultions! That is awesome. I do wonder who picks out fic for articles like this. Although, I must admit that I assumed that they would have contacted the authors who got a mention.

Actually, scratch that - it's an old article - sorry!

Sorry Fern, I've gone completely bonkers. I was right the first time - it's a follow-up, by heidi, on an earlier article she'd written. Here's a link that will hopefully make sense of it :D

I got Movie Magic today and was reading the article out to my mother. When I came to your name I was like "In writer Fernwithy... Wait a second, I know Fernwithy!" So big congrats!

Movie Magic, strangely, does not have any by-lines. They don't have any STAFF listed either. It's a bit odd.
