A relic of my misspent fannish youth
Well, I dug this old fossil up for the A.S. Homepage chat last week, and I've been flipping through it ever since. My friends and I had a club, which involved an entrance test on SW trivia. We highlighted the questions. (And promptly cheated Jenny D. and Heather through, because they were already in, despite not knowing the trivia.) Anyway, these are the highlighted questions from the official Perry Chapter of the Star Wars Freaks Club, from:

alt

Our entrance test (numbering from the book)
1. Where was Princess Leia from?
4. What vehicle did Luke drive on Tatooine?
13. Why did Vader keep Leia's capture secret?
20. What piece of machinery did [Luke and his uncle] use in their work?
27. Who was Ben Kenobi's pupil long ago?
32. Where, in her attempt to save Alderaan, did Leia say the main Rebel base was?

164. What was the color of Vader's hair?
172. What planet did Yoda live on?
196. Who was the previous owner of the Millennium Falcon?
206. What relationship did Darth Vader claim to have with Luke Skywalker? [NB, the book came out between ESB and RotJ, though I didn't get it until after RotJ]
286. What object did Yoda take from Luke's supply case?

Apparently, we opted out of the Tough Trivia questions, like, "What caused a landspeeder to float?" or "What was the code number on the trash compactor?"

Don't'cha love finding old books and remembering them? Did anyone else have this one?

'Cause I don't actually believe it was. If I really believed it was, I'd probably be defending it to the nines. As it is, I can joke about it. :)

I love stuff like this. That cover art rocks!

I have an old paperback ROTJ without the pictures. That comes the closest.

Hi, Sue. :)

I've been around, you just have to know where to look.

When I opened it, I realized that the back cover is permanently warped in the shape of my thumb, from holding it open so many times.

I have it! I have it!

When we were packing up to move, my kids pounced on it and now it turns up in the oddest places.

Or maybe that "turns up in the oddest places it does, yes!"

So, what WAS the colour of Vader's hair? I mean, we know now that he was a blond, but back then...was it a trick question?
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: June 14th, 2005 05:25 am (UTC) (Link)
It was a trick question... the answer is, "He's bald."

Darn. Tainted by the prequels, I am!
murasaki99 From: murasaki99 Date: June 14th, 2005 06:12 am (UTC) (Link)
Yeah, my thought on that question was, "what hair??" Especially if it was all pre-prequel movie questions. I think I know the answers to all of them. Erk. What were you saying about 'misspent youth'?

Ahh, never saw that book over here, but my copy of 'Splinter of the Mind's Eye' is as well thumbed as this. I am almost too scared to touch it now for fear of it falling apart.

Ok, I have a completely random trivia question - mainly because I actually want to know the answer (a friend told me about it last time I saw A New Hope, and I've since forgotten)...

There's a robot (very nodescript-looking, I think it's a garbage-disposal type droid) that R2 and C3PO encounter on the ship they're being transported in by the Jawas. Supposedly it pops up in the background throughout Episodes 4 to 6, and there's a "sect" in fandom that believe the whole story sekritly centres around this droid. What's it's name?

Gronk?
maple_clef From: maple_clef Date: June 14th, 2005 03:28 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, I think that was it! Cheers

Actually, it was Gonk, or to be technical, a GNK-GNK droid.

"What was the code number on the trash compactor?"

326-3827. I've never been beaten at Star Wars Trivial Pursuit. ;) In college, I used to play against a team. I kicked a rotating team of 8 polytech students' butts, and instantly won UberGeekitude in their eyes. *g*
