Dolly meme
Picked this up in a few places, most recently from sreya.

Use this dollmaker to make a "realistic" doll of yourself, then a doll of yourself as a Mary Sue, extra points for wings. The body type does not allow for a realistic doll of me, but at least this is me with normalish clothes and hair sort of like mine. Real on the left, Ferny Sue on the right.

anais_ninja said that her version required a back story for the Sue dolly, so here's one. It's amusing to make Mary Sues.

(I lost the original version that I put in the comments, because I apparently didn't hit "Ctrl-C" hard enough. Oh, well. I like embellishing, anyway.)

Anyway, her name is Enigma Hanover. She's a sixteen year old girl who works in a library in Little Whinging and attends the school Harry would have attended had he not gone to Hogwarts. She's really an apparently (but not really) Muggle-born witch, but really, she's a half-blood. Her mother was born Isabel Riddle--the daughter of Tom Riddle, Sr, and Cecilia (who is really the daughter of two Squibs who never talked about their pure-blood families of origin, the Potters and the Malfoys). The Riddles themselves, while they appeared to be Muggles, had over the years produced so many Muggle-born witches and wizards that most people in the Ministry knew they had wizarding ancestors. Anyway, Isabel married Charles Hanover, who really is a Muggle, but is cousin to many royal people in Europe and is the grandson of a famous American movie star to boot. They had Enigma late in life, and when her Hogwarts letter came, they couldn't bear the thought of her living away from them, so they forbade her to go. (Isabel was also a witch, but because she was the daughter of Squibs, the Ministry never knew about her.) Dumbledore was supposed to Obliviate Enigma, but he knew she was very powerful, and suspected her family connection to Voldemort. So instead of Obliviating her, he kept up a correspondence with her for years, thinking she could be helpful in defeating her great uncle. She is devasted when he dies, and at the beginning of a year 7 story, shows up on Privet Drive in tears, begging Harry to take her along with him, so she can avenge Dumbledore's death. He immediately allows this. Ginny, realizing that she's been beaten, gives them her blessing, and Hermione becomes her new best friend (after all, they both like libraries and dislike Voldemort). It turns out that Enigma isn't even really Charles Hanover's daughter (though she gets to keep all her legal connections to royalty and movie stars for unclear reasons), but that Isabel had an affair with Regulus Black, and just before he tragically died (while Isabel was pregnant with Enigma), he came to her and gave her a heavy goblet engraved with the Hufflepuff badger, and said that she had to keep it safe until their daughter was old enough to destroy it...

Snerk.

Sues are funny.

I've been having so much watching everyone do this meme! And now I wish *I* had resisted the urge to make my Mary Sue doll quite so outrageous :-)

Would i sound like a complete idiot if i asked what the heck a Mary Sue is? Apparently i'm not terribley familiar with the fandm jargon. I can kind of guess, but is what's the solid definition?

Re: mary sue?

I can take care of the anonymous comment.

Mary Sue is a character who's forced into a fanfic and who warps and breaks everything in the general vicinity. She's Harry's half-sister, who's a unicorn animagus metamorphmagus who is really the key to beating Voldemort, even though no one in canon has ever heard of her. Everyone--villain and hero alike--thinks she's the cat's meow. Except the audience, who wants to kill her.

Re: mary sue?

A Mary-Sue is a character inserted forcibly into the canon 'verse. She (or he - there are Gary-Stus, too, though they are less common) is perfect in every way - beautiful, years more intelligent than anyone else (including Dumbledore), has a mysterious and dark past, complete with emotional baggage, can reduce even the wittiest of canon characters to tears of awe with her snide comments, and will have a special power that no one else has. Contrary to human nature, everyone loves her. Girls want to be her, boys want to do her, type thing. She's two-dimentional, uninteresting, and doesn't fit with the canon world. If mocked correctly, however (see

Neat. That dollmaker is addictive. I need to post mine to my blog.
coralia13 From: coralia13 Date: August 8th, 2005 12:36 am (UTC) (Link)
So, are you addicted to the dollmaker now, or are you stronger than I? ;)
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: August 8th, 2005 01:24 am (UTC) (Link)
I fed my addiction earlier and have now kicked the habit. It's a short-lived addiction. ;)
coralia13 From: coralia13 Date: August 8th, 2005 03:59 am (UTC) (Link)
Very interesting you should say that - I found the same to be true. Unfortunately for me, my initial addicted phase occured right before first semester exams last year. I thought today when I created my Sue-self that I was reverting, but then I made macaroni and cheese and watched an episode of Buffy. The craving went away. :)

Hey, I think you found my hair. (Seriously, I probably should have used the hair on the left.) Clearly you are a more diligent dollmaker than I.

The version of the meme I got asked for the Sue's background story, which was the best part, in my opinion.

So tell us about your Sue. You know if you delve deep enough in your soul, you'll find your evil Sueing self. For example, my Sue is Snape's half-angel daughter, and I hadn't even started drinking when I made that up.

I'll edit it into the post instead of having it in comments. :)

Super!

And of course, Enigma wins at life...or loses, which makes it funny enough that she wins. Yeah, that's the one.

Okay Fern, you may try to be all Ravenclaw on the outside, but this just proves that you are pure Slytherin on the inside! I spent *2 hours* playing with this thing. You are evil!
