Gearing up - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Gearing up
Happy New Year to those celebrating it! :) (Obviously, as I'm online, I'm Reform and only keep one day.)

Gearing up for TWH, and starting to get fairly psyched. My black velvet dress still fits, so I have something to wear to the ball, which I'll have to leave around ten to go read "A Drift of Azaleas," but hey, I'll be reading it dressed in velvet. ;) Alas, I have to work until nine tonight, so no early Salem trip (though anyone in Salem already who plans to wander down to Boston to see stuff before the events part of the symposium starts, drop me an e-mail and I'll let you know where I am; being a helpful librarian sort, I can also help you find stuff to see!). fernwithy [at] gmail [dot] com.

According to the weather report last night, today and tomorrow are going to be corkers, but a cold front is coming in Friday evening which will bring showers, and Saturday will be rainy and blustery. :( On the plus side, the leaves are finally starting to turn--not peaking yet, but starting--so you all may get to see a bit of New England in the fall, which is a totally worthy pursuit.

Alas, my eye allergies are acting up, and I think I may have to--gasp! horrors!--wear my glasses.

Have a wonderful time!

It IS getting exciting, isn't it? Alas, I can't stay for the Ball (I have to work on Monday *pout*), but I hope to see you around.

I'm very lucky in working for the city government. There is no holiday of a federal, state, or city nature that I don't get off. Hope to catch you around!

The cold front actually makes me kind of happy, because it's still scorching down here and I have pretty scarves! :)

It's the rain that's coming with it that will be a bit messy--bring umbrellas to go with the scarves!

Ugh... the weather report makes it sounds like I'll need a jacket, if not my long coat.

I wish I was arriving early enough on Thursday to actually see things, but I'll get in the afternoon, and will probably be oooky from the flight.

It didn't look like a severe cold snap--down into the fifties, maybe, but not, like, freezing. A coat is usually a good idea. It's going to be wet, though. My weather report was from Channel 7, which is usually a pretty good source.

Well, I have a thigh length suede jacket -- it's warm enough, but if it gets into the 40s at night, I want my calf length wool coat. I've got thin blood or something. I *hate* cold.

I suppose I should bring my scarf, too...

Happy New Year! I'm missing Witching Hour due to money woes (grumble grumble), so you'll have to have enough fun for both of us, okay?

- LB (who is more Reform than you, in the let's-have-a-bacon-cheeseburger sense, LOL)

I'll try to have fun. ;)

I'm not kosher myself... I always got a kick out of the campus center after Yom Kippur, when everyone seemed to be ordering bacon cheeseburgers.

(Of course, that doesn't compare to the pair of guys I visited after Kol Nidrei one night, who were eating ice cream, and said it was all right, since, after all, it was Ben and Jerry's.)

LOL! Ben & Jerry are two of my favorite guys. I think my father rather wishes I'd married one of them instead of a goy. ;)

My dad once had to reassure a non-Jewish friend that he wasn't going to Hell after having eaten ham on a bagel. LOL!

I'm SO not Kosher. I'm really not that observant on my own, and my kids attend both Shul and church (and both of those are sporadic, at best), and I usually claim to be Unaffiliated, capital-U. I did spend two decades as a Greenberg, though, so that's got to count for something.

Again...Enjoy TWH. SO jealous. - LB

PS - It's not just you with the eye allergies; I've been in glasses all week. UGH.

I hate my life: I can't make it to TWH. You know. General money matters and lack of free time from doing NaNo a month early. Gah.

Have tons and tons of fun. I hope you make a ton of HP-lovin' RL friends, they're *really* hard to find outside of online. I hope you have a *great*-hair-day for the ball; I hope good weather makes your allergies disappear. And I look forward to seeing your photo in the black velvet dress, and of course, to reading your account of the whole event.

*sucks in jealousy quickly*

Have a ton of fun. You deserve it after the past few weeks!
