Spewing out too many words since November 2003

Well, I waited until 12:05 to start. I decided to go unplanned and just let it rip. And I got 1100 words in an hour. Of course, not knowing where it's going will crimp the word count. I'll try to do another thousand or so tonight before bed.

Ooh, congrats! I've had mine open most of the day in its own window here at work, and I'm at about 2000 words. A decent start, I figure. Good luck!

I try not to write too much fiction at work--and I spent quite a long time writing yesterday's Shades section--so I'm waiting until I get home, though I spent some time brainstorming with my notebook at lunch.

Go you! I can't do NaNo myself, although I've tried, other years. I write too slowly and not in consecutive order, so it takes me ages to get straightened out.

I'm mostly doing it to force myself to just GET THROUGH THE SILLY THING. Ya know? ;)

That's right, let 'em rip!

My biggest challenge is going to be resisting the urge to reread stuff I have written (which inevitably leads to editing, rewriting, etc).. My gross quotation for the week is "Don't look at the puke."

Race you to the finish line!

:fingers crossed:

Yeah, I have to look at a little puke, because I changed a major thing between writing last night and going home to write tonight, but it won't require a major change in what's already written.

One of the traps, isn't it? I've read about it happening to other people, and though it hasn't happened to me yet, I bet it will. The strategy for coping with changes you want to make, they say, is to pretend you've already rewritten all the previous pages to be consistent with you're writing now, and just blaze on through to 50,000 without ever once looking back.

Then again, you're a much faster writer than I am, so you probably don't need to be so dire and do-or-die about all this. :)

A couple of questions from those of us who love to read what you write--
1) Are you taking a break from Shades during November, or will you have time for fanfic and NaNo?
2) Will you post your original work so we can get our Fern fix? I'd love to read your novel :)
Either way, best of luck to you--

1) Luckily, I have a ton of time off backed up, and I'm taking it in November, so with luck, the pace of Shades (which isn't exactly breaking records!) won't drop off too much. Glad it would be missed, though! The last few sections haven't exactly been awe-inspiring.

2) No. I don't post my original stuff online (except when I do, and it's not exactly my most popular page ;)), because if it goes online, I'd never be able to sell it. (It's giving up first rights, and I advise against anyone putting their original NaNo stories online for that reason.)

Write on. I got my first day's quota in, we'll see about tomorrow. *Breaks into song: "Tomorrow, tomorrow, there's always tomorrow..."*

Hey, where can I get one of those nifty counter things?

(P.S. Congratulations!)

Just click on mine. It's like a meme... fill in your stuff, and it generates the code.
