4/23 and 4/24 poem recs
Oops, I forgot to rec a poem yesterday! So, two for the price of one, neh?

Wild flight on flight against the fading dawn
The flames' red wings soar upward duskily.
This is the funeral pyre and Troy is dead

Helen of Troy, by Sara Teasdale

And the immortal Trees, by Joyce Kilmer:
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree!

sadly, whenever I think of Trees I think of the song on the Muppet Show album, where Sam and Wanda start to sing the poem and then trees get cut and someone yells "Timber" in the background. :)

Same here. :P I like the poem, though.

I've been reading Sara for a long time, and yunno, there are some things about her writing that just ring right with me, in spite of all that I could find distracting or jarring.

Funny, I was just thinking of Sara Teasdale today and in fact included one of her poems ("Barter") in a birthday present for one of my friends this very day.

My first introduction to her was made quite in the right way: My choir is singing a gorgeous piece set to her "There Will Be Rest."
