*Sniff*

I'm a curse. I feel I should apologize to the person who went home tonight. And Constantine. And announce that from now on, I'll be an avid Taylor fan. And hopefully, from now on will be "until next Wednesday."

Do you, against all reason, believe your support and interest effect the outcomes of competitions held miles away and hours ago? I do. It gets a little out of control during football season.

Oh, yeah. Wanna guess why the Bills lost four Superbowls in a row? Just take a look at my address at the time... I thought maybe the Sox had beaten my curse as well as theirs, but no, it just transferred to John Kerry.

*laughs*

I thought maybe the Sox had beaten my curse as well as theirs, but no, it just transferred to John Kerry.

I think this sense of being a 'curse' is very universal. I always figured the only reason Massachusetts teams started winning was because I moved out of state.

Can I get you to throw your hat in with McPhee? Please?

I'm afraid my heart has been fully given to the Soul Patrol. WOO!

Why fall in love with the Soul Patrol when McPhee's got tits and ass aplenty? Tits and ass > grey hair.

As long as you promise to *never* root for Elliot, we should all be fine ;)

Elliott's worst sin is being boring. He has a great voice and always seems pretty nice. So don't worry--I'll never start rooting for him.

Yeah, which is why I think he'll be the next to go home. Frankly I think he should have gone home before Paris. He just doesn't have what it takes to become a star. He's just a nice guy who can sing well. So what?

What on earth do people see in Taylor? Elliot's the only one left that I can even stand :/

Paris was my favorite, but I don't have anything against Kat or Elliott, and Chris is growing on me. I don't get the Taylor thing. I'm with Simon--every time he's on, he reminds me of a drunk father singing at a wedding... the moment I generally would take advantage to hit the ladies' room.

Now I'm just left with Chris to root for. *sniff* I hope someone signs Paris, her voice is just too good to not get a contract.

I know. And she has connections to take advantage of--when I was checking to see what all was on the Billboard charts, I noticed that her grandmother is back on the charts this week with her new album. Here's hoping Grandma hooks her up with a good producer. I'd buy a Paris album. I mean, if I had extra money to buy music just now.
buongiornodaisy From: buongiornodaisy Date: May 4th, 2006 05:31 pm (UTC) (Link)
What I hope will happen with Paris is that she gets a producer who won't sacrifice her to the altar of A.I. blandness. There've been plenty of A.I. singers who I loved in the past whose albums I have not purchased because they're the blandest things in the market. It's a shame; on the competition they display so much personality, but when it comes to the records? Feh.
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: May 4th, 2006 05:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yeah, honestly, the best place is second--you get all the attention for the whole time, but you don't get stuck with their contract. Didn't work so hot for Diana DiGarmo or Justin Guarini, but it worked great for Clay Aiken and seems to be doing something for Bo Bice. And this year, everyone who's left has a different style from everyone else, so I pretty much think they all have some kind of career ahead of them, if they choose to pursue it.
buongiornodaisy From: buongiornodaisy Date: May 4th, 2006 06:14 pm (UTC) (Link)
*nods* Second, I think, works for people who have strong fanbases like Clay and Bo--an interesting observation since it implies that the competition continues after the season finale. You still have to carve yourself into the industry as a marketable personality, and if you're one Diana DiGarmo in millions you won't make it that far.

As you said, everyone this year is so diverse in style and personality that they won't cancel each other out--although I'm concerned about Chris once he hits the market. He's fresh on A.I. because there haven't been that many "rockers" in this competition, but there are so many rock musicians out there who are similar to or better than Chris that, unless he does something remarkable and unique, he won't make it that far.

Same with Taylor, I think. I adore him and think he's more refreshing than a rocker in this stage of the competition, but unless he makes himself separate from the other musicians like him in the market--if he doesn't do that much, the only career I can see for him is a career spamming the airwaves of the Disney Channel.

Paris...I'm concerned about Paris, because I think her youth and blatant obsession with Beyonce will kill her in the market. We don't need another precocious/obnoxious teen, and one Beyonce is enough. Paris needs to be Paris, and unfortunately I don't think she even knows who Paris is or what Paris is really capable of. All she knows is that she can sing, sometimes jazz music, but she'd rather sing popular r&b songs that do not match her voice well.

Which is really the problem with most of the AI competetors. They don't know who they are or what they're capable of; they just stick to imitating bigger and better artists or paying tribute to them rather than being themselves. I think Taylor has the potential to carve himself out--him and Elliot, but they both need to stop standing in awe of their influences. Same goes for Chris, really. And McPhee...eh. There's dozens of McPhees out there on the charts so it really doesn't matter.

I think Paris should listen to what was probably the one piece of useful Paula advice the whole season. Make an album with the kind of songs she's best at (and screw Simon and the whole "you're too young for this") and once she's got her ground she can start finding her new material. The one-old-one-new album strategy has worked wonders for a number of Mexican artists and I don't see why it wouldn't work for her.
