Commercials - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
You know, most commercials at least try to suggest that they're a great big improvement. But I've been watching these Wishbone Salad Spritzer commercials for a while now, and... well...

Okay, so you spray dressing onto your salad, and it's, according to the commercials, "Only one calorie per spritz!" A great diet aid. The suggested serving is "ten sprays." But the models in the commercial with dialogue love to say things like, "I'm going to spritz every leaf!" or "I spritz every bite!" In other words, about 50-60 spritzes. Roughly the same as the regular serving size of a light Italian dressing, which is what this is.

So, basically, you're adding stuff to the process of eating, cluttering up the table with commercial containers... for no caloric benefit at all.

I think I'll stick with plain old vinegar (if anything) on my salads. It's 34 calories for an entire cup; you can pretty much drizzle it on a salad without adding anything.

Yeah--my issue isn't so much with the spraying (like you said, spray on oil for pans is way easier to manage), but with the commercial bragging how it's "one calorie per spray," then putting in fine print that the serving size is 10 sprays while having the models talk about what would add up to between 50 and 60 sprays at the very least, all of which ends you up in exactly the same place as just drizzling a little bit of regular stuff on. I wouldn't be headdesking if their ad had run, "Tired of trying to get one little tablespoon to go through your whole salad? You could do this"--show frantic model trying to shake a salad, maybe spilling it all over, trying to coat all the leaves--"or you could try our salad spritzer... one serving, for your whole salad." (Show same model luxuriating with her salad, casually spraying each bite, cut to logo.)

Or something.
