NaNo - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Wow. It's a lot easier doing this when I'm not trying to write an involved fanfic at the same time. My brain is sticking strictly with my regular characters and not trying to get them out of the way because I'm really just looking forward to hanging out with Remus and Tonks for a while. So, far, I'm more or less on schedule.

My profile is here, if anyone wants to see a very short snippet. Non-flash (faster) is here.

ETA: Chapter 24 of Shades (Interlude 6: Sweet Surrender) is up at SQ. Minor tweaks.

Oo, that's definitely looking interesting!

And yes, I'd imagine it would be simpler to focus without splitting between a fanfic and the original. But then... I've never focused on a single story at a time. So I'll take your word for it. :~D

I have a weirdly monogamous relationship with stories, and if a big one isn't done, I can't seem to move to another big one. I think I used to be able to, but at some point along the line, I started writing so that everything would glom onto some big, major thing. So writing in two different worlds tends not to work! ;p

Nice excerpt. There was one sentence that confused me a little but I understood the meaning. Good luck finishing, is the 50k words the same for everyone doing this? I assume many novels would be longer by various degrees.

50K is the rule that everyone is aiming for to "win." They can be longer.

So what happens at the end of the month?

I've never finished before. I think we just get a cyber-pat on the head. But hopefully, I'll have a novel that's done.

Ah, cool. I thought about doing this for a few years but I don't really have the writing expirence to do it justice. I thought maybe they went through the people that finish and pick one or two of them to publish or somethign. Though I suspect a number of the participants woudl get published anyway.

...Ooh. Love it. Has Jack's research on dragons included Tolkien, perchance? ;)

But of course.

When (and I do mean when, not if) you get that published, please post the title up here. I want to buy that novel.

Thanks. But I'd better finish it first!

How does this nanowrimo works? do you submit the whole thing by the end of november or are posting it everyday?

fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: November 7th, 2006 11:50 pm (UTC) (Link)
You don't post it anywhere--never post original fic online!!!--but I'm writing about 2000 words a day and submitting a scrambled version to their counter. It started Nov 1, ends Nov 30. Anyone who gets 50000+ words "wins." Meaning only that you've succeeded.

Well, it could worked in a way you posted but it wasn't displayed, just to be sure you're really doing it, under of course the legal condition of not displaying after the end without your permission. It seems to me that the only benefit of doing it is having a huge motivation to stick to an schedule.

Yup, that's exactly it... and that's exactly the sort of kick in the ass I need to get things finished, which is why I'm doing it!
