Sigh. - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003

Sigh.
Feh.

I have some time off (yay!) and I thought I'd celebrate the start of it by going to see a movie. But there's absolutely nothing out that I'm even remotely interested in seeing. Knew I should have taken time off in the summer. Blockbusters. Mmm. If I'm spending money on a movie, I want it to be LOUD, goshdarnit. ;P

I guess that means I'll just have to write something loud.

Though I'll be damned if I can figure out why my fantasy novel is coming out sounding like Law and Order. Possibly because I've been on a severe mystery kick lately--I followed up Patterson with Cornwall and... someone else I can't remember... and now Kellerman. The Kellerman (Straight Into Darkness) is pretty good.

Aw, you don't want to see Stranger Than Fiction? It looks like a comedy written just for writers, the self-aware character, etc.

I saw that last night and loved it. (Though it helps that I love Emma Thompson. Her plus cracked out on writer's block is excellent!)

Very unique concept and all. It is a comedy, but being the softy that I am, it almost had me crying at the end.

If you do see it watch for the guitar shop scene - it was the one that had me ROFL.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that one. It looks pretty good. Though the fact I didn't think about it when I looked at the listings makes me wonder if maybe it wasn't in the places I was looking. Still, more in the mood for a major flashy action flick.

Sorry for the extra comment, here.

It's making me want to read it, anyway. :-)

Heh. Except that my character is an Oglala Lakota guy who grew up in North Dakota and now serves reasonably well in the Navy... but he sounds like Lennie Briscoe on a particularly New Yorkish day! Except, of course, when he's analyzing what they'll need to prosecute the case and sounds like Jack McCoy...

Dunno if they're your thing, but I rather liked both The Queen (Helen Mirren as QE2 dealing with the death of Diana) and Marie Antoinette.

The Queen looked all right, which surprised me since nearly anything involving Princess Diana annoys me... it's mostly because it looked like it was more about QEII, who I actually like. But it's definitely not what I'm in the mood for. I think I'll go for Casino Royale on Friday.

Stranger than Fiction is aparently good...my brother called me just to tell me to watch it. And he rarely calls me. Though seeing as he's a 16-year-old boy, that's forgivable. But if he called me just to say that... *shrug*

If you are in the mood for a good mystery "The Prestige" is good. I did figure some parts of it out along the way but it is filled with excellent acting and use of historical figures.

Reading-wise, I'm into mysteries. Movie-wise, I'm up for an action flick in the Indiana Jones vein. ;p

I dunno...I saw The Prestige, and it was emotionally involving enough that I didn't miss the action.

Plus, David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. What's not to love?

I went to a screening of Casino Royale last night. It was amazing! I highly recommend it if you want something loud with a plot.
