General thoughts, map meme renewal
I'm very restless. Half a dozen things I should be doing at work, and can't because of staffing shortages that prevent me from being in the "offstage" area to get them done. Grrr.

Anyway, awhile back I put up the map meme--figure out where people are clustered, all that--and I thought I'd put it back up again, in case anyone's just dying to be listed. If you click on the word "Map," you can see where folks are.

I'm trying to get all my Livejournal friends' locations plotted on a map - please add your location starting with this form.

G-d, I need a vacation. Better yet, I need to go somewhere else for a good stretch. Maybe live abroad for a year or so. Not that I can afford to do so, but I figure, if I'm going to be 33 and single/childless, why can't I take advantage of the lack of any ties to the world to, you know, go places? Of course, I haven't the faintest idea how one would go about finding work abroad, and obviously I don't have the money to just be at leisure for a year.

I feel a bit...: restless restless, bored, and dejected

Well, you can see Sunderland and Newcastle if you really zoom in, but yes, the featurelessness is confusing.

As you're 33 and single, you should be able to stay in youth hostels all over Western Europe fairly easily, including in the UK. Work... well, it's not too hard to find for someone with your talents.

Does your field of work have any international studies organizations?

Even if you're unable to go overseas for a year, perhaps you could plan a week or two long vacation to someplace you've always wanted to go? Or even a weekend trip if there's someplace nearby you enjoy. Even a small vacation might help combat some of the burnout you're feeling.

I think it's funny that on my map doyle_sb4 is in the Minch somewhere, when I know her to be in the same place as I am, and ajhalluk looks like she's in Downpatrick rather than England. People seem to hit somewhere to the north-west of their actual location.

Hmm. Wonder if I should update mine since I've moved - though Denton is quite close to Dallas, at least on that map scale.

I added myself to the map.

If you have a Bachelor's degree in anything and are from an English-speaking country, you can become an English teacher in Japan for a year through the JET program... they already hired their people for this year (the teachers usually go to Japan in July) but you could apply for next year.

Japan is a very nice country with alot of interesting history and culture and it is enjoyable to live there.
