And the rest!
I was just going to do page two, but there were only two requests on page three before I closed up, so I did those, too. Boy, that "Anon" person was sure demanding. ;p

  1. The Marauders discovering Remus is a werewolf and then telling him about it for Anon
  2. Sirius portrait and returned-to-the-present-by-Teddy-Regulus for gabrielladusult
  3. So, how about the dinner where Maddy and company first meet Remus? for Anon
  4. I noticed that in several of your fics, characters contemplate what might have happened if Qui-Gon had lived to train Anakin himself. I'd be interested to see what you'd make of actually writing about that possibility. for Anon
  5. I quote Tina the laundress's daughter--"Me wants me Bhaer!" Preferably with Jo, please for Anon
  6. I loved the Doll Army - maybe more with the Marauders, including James this time, and young Dora? for mme_riphaldin
  7. I'd like, if possible, something with the Brodie girls and Harry at a later time in their life discussing their time for Anon
  8. Speaking of the girls and Sirius, I notice that after the island has burned he is still Mr. Foote, but by the time they are at GP he is Mr. Black. When, and how much, were the girls told? for Anon
  9. Speaking of Ani, something with his keeping his head on straight (instead of going to the Dark Side) in Revenge of the Sith? for Ellen
  10. So, whatever was supposed to have become of Leia during "Coming Home"? for Anon
  11. Remus's disclosure to Ted and Andi before he starts tutoring Dora, and their immediate reactions to it for Anon
  12. Lily in a situation where she realizes she has misjudged either James or Sirius, because of a difference in class distinction for Anon
  13. Ooo, Andromeda and Cissy having tea after the war and dealing with Bella's memory bonus points for them sharing a happy childhood memory which is obviously darkened by what came afterwards for thornyrose42
  14. Something from Remus's days as an apprentice teacher, please for Anon
  15. I think you mentioned somewhere in a comment fic that Harry introduced Al to the portraits of Snape and Dumbledore at some point - I would love to see that scene for Anon

I enjoyed all the HP ones, so thank you for keeping on and managing another marathon series of requests :)

The ficlet with young Al meeting the portraits was hilarious. Snape's reaction was perfect - I can just see Phineas and him commiserating over various things, though I reckon Snape is far more misanthropic than Grayfur! I suspect Grayfur's reactions are often a front, but somehow Snape has always seemed just a generally miserable person.

And although I liked the Portrait Sirius and Regulus interaction, somehow I have never really agreed with your decision to write Teddy bringing back Regulus. Harry disposing of the Hallows properly, so that the two which had the most potential to do future damage were permanently 'lost', has always seemed to be such a key aspect to the ending to DH.

Well, Teddy's not using the Hallows. It's more like Hermione and the Time Turner at the end of PoA, when he realizes that this must have been what happened all along. If anyone had seen Regulus die, as opposed to having it strongly suggested (a la Buckbeak), it would be different.

(And of course, there's the minor matter that I just plain disagree with JKR's theme there, and am carrying on a determined, if hopeless, fictional argument... ;p)

LOL - part of me definitely understands that wish! The intellectual and analytical part of me recognises that in The Hero's Quest, the Hero must lose his mentors and teachers. So in that respect, the necessity for the deaths of Sirius, Dumbledore and Remus, plus to a certain extent Snape, could be taken as an essential part of the Hero theme.

But "lose" in terms of Hero's Quest doesn't have to mean Dead! As we saw in LOTR, Frod and Sam "lost" their support crew around them, but apart from Boromir, the Fellowship weren't all killed off - they were just unavailable, and they went on to play their own parts in the success of the Heroes' journey.

And then when JKR comes out and says that Remus and Tonks 'had' to die because she'd spared Arthur (her Good Model Father Figure) plus that Teddy 'had' to grow up an orphan as a sort of reflection of Harry, but this time with Nice Family ... well, I'm afraid I'm like you, and say: "WHY?" I've never understood how killing Remus and Tonks somehow made up for Arthur surviving. What did poor Andromeda do to lose husband, daughter and son in law, yet have Narcissa survive with her hubby and son? Why kill off so many important figures of the older generation, simply to leave Harry and his peers a clean slate to rebuild the world? Serious Grump from this reader!!

Yeah, there's that. That was just weird reasoning, and more, it didn't fit the story she'd been telling with Remus--even within TDH, where his whole bit was learning to be alive. Turning back and getting killed anyway--more or less as he'd been trying to do when he ran away in the fall--just fit the whole thing wrong.

But it's not just a grump. Between HP, Star Wars, and flipping Buffy the Vampire Slayer all going on about accepting death and welcoming it, I'm beginning to feel like Dr. Kevorkian is running pop culture! Sheesh. How about fighting for life as a theme?
alkari From: alkari Date: July 22nd, 2009 05:39 am (UTC) (Link)
Oh yes! And it's not just Remus: when you look at Sirius - 12 years locked away with Dementors, and yet he was still so utterly determined to stay alive so that he could deal with Peter plus help Harry. Such a tremendous will to live, even when he was depressed and locked up in GP. Surely it can't only have been Harry who was fighting to stay alive!

It also gives no sense of continuity, with the older generation also having to deal with the outcomes of war. Sure, Harry and co 'saved' the world and as the next generation, they would play the major part in rebuilding a new one. She needed some of the younger generation killed off too, so she neatly selected Fred (the Wesleys could not remain unscathed) and Colin Creevey. But I found it unrealistic - and infuriating - to have the entire older generation wiped out away, apart from Super Mum! Molly and Nice Dad Arthur.

Thank you for the bit of Star Wars fic. I absolutely love what you do with those characters, almost moreso than your Harry Potter fic in some ways. After all, JKR succeeded in getting me to like and understand Harry in the canon works. But I can't say I found Anakin to be a very compelling character until I read your stories.

List o ficlets

Could you please make a list of all your HP fanfic and ficlets, preferably in chronological order? I'm sure I missed a batch or two, because I couldn't remember where some things and plots got from.

Re: List o ficlets

I really just do this sort of thing to goof around. If you hit "Harry Potter fics on LJ" over to the right, they're all tagged.
