"Stray" table of contents - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
"Stray" table of contents
After accidentally deleting the ToC for Stray (up until I abandoned it), I've replaced it, with the new format. Eventually, everything will get the new treatment, with the chapters uploaded to HB in their finished forms.

P.S.: I think I'm going to widen their pages a little. I started it when my resolution was 800x600. I think I can widen it out to use a little bit more of the most common screen size!

ETA: I did Shifts. I've lost my will to cut and paste any more today. ;p

I like it!!!

nice cover for strays (even thought that kind of dog looks too fluffy and lovable to be like sirius- but maybe because i always imagined a sharper-wolf like dog as sirius.....)

but the summary sound great!

looking forward to see the rest of the stories getting the same treatment! Specially Shifts!

Re: I like it!!!

Since Shifts is already beta'd and formatted, once I get the impetus to get going, it shouldn't take too long.

(I knew I could find a picture of a big black dog for free if I looked up Newfies, so I grabbed one. I do think of him as having a thick ruff, but yeah, not the floppy ears and stocky build.)

looking forward to it!

(so to keep count- only Stray has a cover and a summary so far?)

and, while this probably wont happen i still got to ask- are you putting chapter pictures to each chapter like the american books have?

Re: I like it!!!

I think they'd look odd in the style I'm doing the covers. I'm, er... not an artist. So I'm stuck with only what I can find in terms of already existing pictures, and the chapter pics tend to be a little more specific than that. I'd personally love to do it with the Teddy stories, especially, but...

Nice. I'm also looking forward to having 'cleaned up' versions. Be sure to let us know as you replace the chapters with your final versions.

Personally, I always picture Sirius as a long-haired German Shepherd, mostly because my family actually has a long-haired German Shepherd who's almost entirely black (brown paws). (Here he is, with my late rotty.) He was even from the S litter, so we had to give him an S name. If he'd been a few years younger, I would of course have campaigned for Sirius. Unfortunately, he was born before that book was printed, and even more before I read it. Still, I like the fact that German Shepherds can fit many different looks: tough, rangy, scruffy, cute and fluffy, silly, and all in the same dog. (Also, look at this picture where our shepherd's being a complete bully to the rotty. Sirius would have been a very appropriate name for this dog.)

Oh, so cute! Except for the brown forepaws, he totally looks like Padfoot.

(ETA, there aren't any particular changes to Shifts, except for Mrs. Black's name, and there won't be many to Shades. I think I just want to get them in a site I control, in case something further happens to the Quill.)

That totally makes sense about the archive. If I had my own website, I'd just put my fics up there (in fact, I might look into that one of these days). One thing is that it would be nice to know exactly where your fics are and to not worry about changes in the way the people run the site or whatever. I've got several of my fics on multiple archives, and I'm tempted to remove them just so that I don't forget where they're at. With some of my fics, I don't really mind if I lose track of them, but some of them are ones that I want to make sure I can pull if I choose to. On the other hand, if you don't have a presence on big archives like ff.net, someone might pretend to be you. (I had that happen to me once; it made me rather angry.) But as a reader, just for convenience sake, it would be nice if your website had all your long fics in their full and most updated form. (It would be really spiffy if you had all your ficlets on there, too, but that would be a bit of an undertaking.)
