Hey, Elodie, just between us girls... what do you think of James?
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: August 23rd, 2012 02:30 am (UTC) (Link)
Rather surprisingly, I like him. I assumed he would be stuck up, and arrogant. He is a little arrogant sometimes. But it's all right, because he doesn't overdo it. I liked that he was honest with me about investigating me, but then asked me even though I had an alibi. He's Harry Potter's son--I know he doesn't think about it a lot, and maybe hasn't noticed, but there wasn't a girl at Beauxbatons who wouldn't have said yes. Except for Celia, maybe. But starstruck girls are very easy to come by, even when the star is striking at a distance, so I am particularly amazed that he didn't withdraw his invitation to me.

Andromeda, how is being a Great grandmother sitting with you?
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: August 23rd, 2012 02:48 am (UTC) (Link)
Kind of like becoming a grandmother after raising a second child, if you want the truth. I love being Granny-great, though I am still holding out for a permanent nickname. If Phineas can have "Grayfur," I feel I deserve a unique name as well.

Ruth, how did you like living at Hogwarts as an adult?
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: August 23rd, 2012 05:35 am (UTC) (Link)
It's actually fun. Finish up a day at paperwork or talking to less-than-pleasant people, chase down a criminal or two, then go on back to Hogwarts. Sometimes I ate in the Great Hall; sometimes James and I cooked in our quarters. Sometimes students wanted to know about my glamorous career. Being a teacher's wife in a school is a bit like being married to a Quidditch star, though--you've got to deal with little girls who have crushes on your husband, and occasional inveterate gossips determined to know more about you. It's disconcerting to be investigated. But on the whole, I liked it a lot.

So, friends of Teddy (any of you), how did you react when he introduced you to Regulus?

fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: August 23rd, 2012 05:48 am (UTC) (Link)
[Maurice]You have to understand that the business with Regulus took some very careful stage-managing. Luckily, that's what I do. I was one of the first people Teddy thought to call once the whole business was real. Apparently, he thought to call Honoria, too, but was talked down from that ledge by Ruthless. Honoria and the press would have their place, but not until someone bloody well had a story in place for them to report. Calling Honoria and saying, "Hey, just rescued a Death Eater from the past, want an interview?" would have doomed it.

Anyway, a handful of people at the Ministry knew--Teddy had to get permission in the Department to do it, and Ruthless had helped--but I was the first civilian. I knew he and James were up to something, of course, because they'd been distracted for weeks. Then I got the call to come up to the Roost, and it was just a question of finding out just what it was. I was a little dazed when they introduced me to Regulus, who was still recovering from the poison and not at all ready to interact. Then Teddy asked me to manage the story. After that, it was all business.

For Ruth

When did seeing Teddy with other girls stop hurting?

What do you know that James doesn't want Anyone else to know?

Re: For Ruth

[Ruth]There wasn't a huge gap between our last attempt at dating (I know, I said "No more," but I was bored during his first year at the Ministry, and going out seemed like what we were supposed to do when we got bored, so we went out for a few months, almost exactly like our Hogwarts times, and broke up for no particularly rational reason) and his getting together with Victoire, so there wasn't a big string of girls to get tetchy over when we were adults. And in school, I knew none of them were serious. If you mean when did it stop hurting to see him with Weasley, then I think the answer is, sometime after I started seeing James. I didn't really notice when it went away, and by then it wasn't so much jealousy over Teddy as it was feeling like I'd missed something important--so when that something important came along, it stopped hurting.

[Martian]That is against the pet code. All pets, like priests and Healers, keep their humans' secrets. That said, since other humans have caught him at it, I suppose it's not a secret that he played dress-up until he was twelve and air-duelled with invisible Dark wizards.

Heh, as a follow up to what someone else asked above:

Ruth, do any of these girls with crushes on James ever see you as the enemy and try to prank you (as they might a girl in competition for a boy they like)? If so, how did you and James handle it?
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: August 23rd, 2012 01:41 pm (UTC) (Link)
[Ruth]If they have, they haven't got far with it. Mainly, they seem--if you can believe it--to try and look like me. There were a lot of curling concoctions and hair dyes going on, which made me laugh. A lot.

For Elodie:

For someone who can't seem to manage to stay in the same room as her schoolmates for more than ten minutes, you've found a détente with James Potter fairly easily. What's different about him?

Also, what made you want to invite him and his family to your home?
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: August 23rd, 2012 01:42 pm (UTC) (Link)
He was much more insistent than the others. Which says something, as he was not terribly insistent. But I found it was not unpleasant to have someone to talk to, and he is... not difficult to look at.

As to the invitation, the letter was the truth. That was my father's idea. If I hadn't done it, he would have.

Bear, Michael, Ahmed and Robert:

What's it like living without James for a year? Who (if anyone) has taken charge of pranks/forest trips?

fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: August 23rd, 2012 06:01 pm (UTC) (Link)
[Michael]No one's really "in charge" of these things, even when James is here, but he is usually the one who comes up with ideas.

[Ahmed]Which none of the rest of them are any good at, so that mostly falls to me.

[Bear]Oh, please, the only good thing you came up with that bit with the Scampering Socks.

[Robert]But to be fair, that was good, watching half of Slytherin chase their socks all over the castle...

oh YES! I been missing these!

and of course, I have loads of questions and can't pick which...

anyhow, Teddy first.
I was reading an re-reading an old journal that has tales from your first year onward
and it said that at your sorting you got sorted into Gryffindor, I feel like a fool for completely forgetting, because I kept thinking you got sorted into Hufflepuff like your mom.

Why do you think the Hat put you in Gryffindor and Not Hufflepuff? have you ever sat down to think about the what made you fit there more than hufflepuff?

-How is the old gang doing? (tinny, maurice, etc)?

to Albus, How are things going with Moth? (as I reasure you, I do not believe your sisters account that all you do is "snog")

Also, there's been a rumour going around that you want to rebel against your family, get all tattooed and pierce several parts of your body.

I of course, think it's ridiculous, but why do you think people assume you would do such an outlandish thing?

Re: oh YES! I been missing these!

[Teddy]I'm the only Gryffindor in my year--always have been. It was sort of a "thing," you know? I had a lot of friends in Hufflepuff, and (as I think those old stories say) the Hat considered putting me there, or in Ravenclaw, but I was thinking of my dad when I was wearing it, and somehow or other, the Hat interpreted that to mean I was a Gryffindor. Since I'm the only Gryffindor, though, I spend a lot of time with other houses, and I fit in with most of them.

[Albus]There's a rumor that I want to do what? Scops, I can see. Scops is pretty rage-y sometimes. But why in the name of Merlin's saggy left sock would I want to? Anyway, Moth and I are friends. Who snog. Lily believes my life to be her business, but don't worry--as soon she has a love life, James and I both plan to inconvenience it as much as possible.

if it´s still open..?

Noah, how do you plan to control your "weakness" if you don´t go to Beauxbatons? Have you had any bouts of magic that you couldn´t control (maybe when you were still a "little" kid)?

Moth, what do you like best about Albus?

oh, and...

Thanks so much Fern! I absolutely adore your stories (they are the only fanfiction I still follow)

Hugs from Germany!

Neil, was it fun being Celia's date?
From: (Anonymous) Date: August 28th, 2012 11:40 pm (UTC) (Link)
This isn't an OC question, but I had to share. I've been reading your fanfic since "Shifts" so many years ago, and it's been such a bonus to the HP world. My eleven-year-old has listened to or read all the books, watched the movies, and mastered the Lego games. He's like me; when he loves something, he can't get enough. I've told him about your stories and how you've imagined the characters in future years, and I realized that I think of your stories as highly as I do canon. Tonight he asked me if he could read them, so I started him on "Forest Guard." He's sitting in the living room chuckling frequently and reading us sentences (I hear him reading one to my husband right now, actually). I'm sure he's going to be asking for the audiobook versions any day. He likes to listen in bed! I'm not sure how I'll break this news to him... I can't wait until he gets to "Daedalus Maze" (my favorite). I felt the same way when he was closing in on "Deathly Hallows." They really are canon around here!

So, thank you. Thanks for your stories. Thank you for being true to the characters and creating new ones that fit the HP universe like a comfortable pair of shoes. I'm passing them on with every bit of enjoyment that I passed on the originals!

Oh, thank you! That's great to know, and I'm glad you and your son have both liked the stories. (Especially your son--I'm glad to know my eleven year old Teddy seems fun to a real eleven year old boy!)

Hi Fern

I must express concern over how much trouble you seem to be having with this story. Can I offer what help I can? I'm a good editor??
