Coriolanus Snow

1) Why get so upset about the nightlock berries? Why not either (a) let K&P go through with the simultaneous nightlock-eating, so they both die; or b) shrug it off. ("We were outplayed. It happens sometimes.") Why make Katniss's life afterward, utterly miserable?

2) Why were you laughing when Katniss shot Coin?

Re: Coriolanus Snow

1. My dear child, I can't let people get the impression that I am playing a game, in which I can be "outplayed." If you're to maintain control over territories so dispersed, over a population so fractious, they must not ever believe that they are more powerful than I am. I might have been more forgiving of having no victor than of allowing her to win, as she did. Seneca should certainly never have put himself in that position. When I was head Gamemaker, I'd have put paid to that nonsense much earlier, before it even came to a crisis point. With access to highly engineered and fearsome creatures, I would have sent one into that cave to see to Miss Everdeen while she was was passed out. It may or may not have taken Mr. Mellark -- they were both asleep for several hours -- but I feel Mellark could have been worked with, if given the proper attention, had he won.

2. Because I had won. Alma Coin tried to out-gambit me, but I knew that Katniss Everdeen understood what had really happened. Whatever happened after I died, District Thirteen was not going to have power over Panem.
