For public consumption?

It would have to be watching him play with the boys. I suppose it's cliche, but it's true. I don't imagine many mothers who don't love to see their children's father loving those children as much as Basil loved Haymitch and Lacklen. I sometimes made up household tasks that I "needed" to finish (sewing was pretty common) just so that I could sit on the outside, and watch them roughhouse together.

Before he got sick, Basil was a very strong man, and the boys would climb onto his back, and he'd ride them around the house, telling them that he was Pegasus, and he'd take them up into the sky any day now. Next, he'd be an elephant, and then he'd be a giant tree for them to climb. Once, heaven help us, he was a dragon. After a few hours of that, all three of them would conk out on the cot we built to be a sofa, and he'd be there sleeping, the boys curled up, one in each arm, and I'd just sit in my chair and love them all.
