Have any of the Gamemakers spent much time with non-mutt animals? Rats are nasty little sh*ts. As for the idea of a "natural" arena ... if the Capitol is in the former SLC, the place has been fenced and safety-padded to within an inch of its life. There was nothing like watching the nightly news in Salt Lake to remind you how awful and unpredictable nature can be. Deadly caves! Bears! Getting lost in the mountains! Freak snowstorms!

By the way, I really enjoyed the "Eat, Pray, Love" clone in your last chapter with the Capitol woman getting a book deal to ride the rails. I'd love to read a chapter or two from that.

There was just something about that book that rubbed me the wrong way. All of those "simple" people in "exotic" places, existing so a rich lady gets her spiritual awakening. Grrr.

I'm sure the Capitol has its wildlife well under control, some of the nastier and unloved things (rattlesnakes, scorpions, etc) most likely unceremoniously wiped out in the city vicinity, and majestic looking pests like bears and mountain lions kept out by some kind of barrier. They have NO IDEA.
