Re: Tom likes it

I'm the anon who asked for Haymitch and Effie's conversation, and I love that this turned out to be the moment that Haymitch proposed as well! It was exactly what I needed after These Are the Names. I love seeing both Effie and Haymitch get what they don't think they can have. Since Effie committed herself to Haymitch a long time ago, it makes perfect sense that she wouldn't hesitate to accept a "real", district-style marriage--and that she would want that stability for her own child, given her experience of Capitol-style parenting.

I think you have a real gift for writing male speech that is exactly what women dream of hearing and yet completely convincing as something a man would say--which may be another way of saying that you have a gift for writing moments in which a character drills down to the bedrock of his self and finds the courage and maturity to lay it bare to someone who matters enough to see it and needs to see it.

(I'm sorry to be so slow in thanking you--real life kept me away from the computer for a few days.)

Re: Tom likes it

Thanks. (I think maybe my problem is that I'm a huge cynic, and assume that someone saying what I want to hear is probably not being truthful. But this seemed true in Haymitch's head.)

Real life! Honestly, I don't know what it thinks it is, keeping people away from the computer.
