You do such a good job on all the politics and intrigue of the sort that goes completely over Katniss's head. At the same time, like Katniss your Haymitch has no idea how he effects people or how to understand and deal with his emotions like a functional adult. Peeta's right about how similar they are.

He really is. I hadn't read the first book for a while -- it was my least favorite of the three -- and I'd forgotten how well Collins showed the low-key affection between Katniss and Haymitch. The scene where he warns her really is sweet, especially after her book-long musings about how she misses her father.
