Percy Jackson movies
I think The Dom over at YouTube may be my soul mate on the question of adaptations (though I'm more willing to put up with questionable child acting in order to get book accurate ages). Anyway, here are his utterly infuriated rantings about the PJO movies, which are pretty much my thoughts on these abominations of adaptation.

What I don't understand is how can Chris Columbus, who directed the first three Harry Potter adaptations, which are considered the most faithful to the books, could have done such a terrible job adapting the Percy Jackson and the lightning thief?!? Like I still don't understand

And if sucks because I thought the guy they picked for Percy had the potential to be amazing if they had just given him good stuff

He looks like older Percy, but the part is for a twelve-year-old, and it doesn't really translate well.

As to Columbus... I don't know. Maybe he got tired of people saying Cuaron's change-happy movie was better, so he figured he'd get change-happy, too?

I really hate the way they just decided to grow them all up several years, too. Can you imagine if they'd tried that with HP? *shudders*

It's sad, because this series had loads of potential from the source material, but they totally botched it.

I did actually enjoy a fair bit of Sea of Monsters, at least until that total disaster that was their depiction of Kronos. Like, seriously?

I guess there are people who truly hate child actors, and there are some restrictions in terms of availability... but you know, if you don't like dealing with that, then maybe don't choose a property that's about kids?

PJO Abominations

Believe me, he speaks for me, too. I was so disappointed -- I loved the books and hoped to at least get Narnia-level adaptations, if not Harry Potter-level, but I don't know how to describe what I thought of the PJ&O movies. I guess I'll stick with abomination.

Re: PJO Abominations

Yeah, abomination is pretty good for that. They're beyond "hot mess." And I don't understand the thinking. The books are already highly cinematic, with sharp dialogue and clearly developed themes. Why not, I don't know, use the material????
