I have not watched Coco, but judging from this, I really should! (Now, if only I actually had time to go to the pictures ...) Because you've definitely captivated me with your portrayal of Imelda. I'm intrigued about the history you reference, and all those little details your sprinkle in are so colourful--the image of Ceci walking into the rain, the family photo, the mysterious line: don't tell Imelda.

I'm probably going to have to come back and reread again after I've seen the movie, but I love how your writing usually stands alone anyway!

It's out on Amazon streaming now. Definitely a recommended feature... though I should probably confess that I spoiled you on a major twist in the narrative (that said, no one I've heard of seemed surprised by said twist, so...)

I finally watched it! And funnily enough, I wasn’t spoiled because it’d been long enough, and I also didn’t have enough context when I first read this for it to make the right connections in my brain. But anyway, it was an amazing movie and I’m so glad to come back to this fic now and be able to properly appreciate the details you’ve woven in here.

One thing that sticks with me from the film is how colourful the backdrops are, and you’ve somehow managed to capture that with your words.

And also the emotions—all the hurt and sorrow that Imelda packed away with the music. Her feelings here really enrich those moments from the movie when she pulled back her inner ‘curtains’ to let the music back in.

I’m excited now to carry on reading!
