Not surprised that Miguel's doing better in math -- the musical study would help that along immensely, plus now he doesn't have to spend a lot of his free time sneaking things to the attic :). I really like Enrique's POV -- he's such a dad -- and I've had a lot of similar thoughts looking at my thirteen-year-old and hearing him talk about the girls he's Definitely Not Interested In and what he wants to do when he gets older. The only quibble I'd have would be Miguel saying "passed" instead of "died" -- the 13 year old boys I know are pretty blunt and probably wouldn't use that kind of language unless they had it modeled somewhere (and to be fair, Miguel's been talking to a LOT of official people recently who are more likely to use that term). I unfortunately got a first-hand look at this recently when one of my son's classmates died in a car accident -- neither he nor anyone else in their group said anything except "died" or "killed."

I think I agree about "passed." I'll change that for AO3.

Music and math are super correlated in schoolwork, and he may also be exposed to these grad students who wouldn't have a lot of patience with him not pulling decent grade in school.
