Back in the day... - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Back in the day...
Ah, memes. The last resort of the chronic procrastinator...

That, and of course, an icon with text by Jack Ichijouji, inspired by a bit of silliness on SQ's Pet Peeves thread about animagi who make themselves understood a bit too easily.

Meme snagged from tsunamisurfer.

20 years ago I...

1) ...was in my freshman year of high school.
2) ...abjectly failed a quiz for the first time (geometry, Mrs. Hubacher).
3) ...had a non-western history teacher that everyone called "Orangutan" or "Rango," because of his bizarrely long arms.

15 years ago I...

1) ...was a college sophomore at Tufts.
2) ...did my first semester as head writer on the immortal soap opera, On the Hill.
3) ...was the same age my mother was when I was born.

10 years ago I...

1) ...was working part time at the Buffalo library.
2) ...was writing a Quantum Leap novel (and was passionately obsessed with the show)
3) ...spent a week in sunny Pasadena.

5 years ago I...

1) ...was in library school, one semester short of graduation. I think I was taking storytelling that semester.
2) ...had my oldest friends up to visit for the premiere of The Phantom Menace. Discovered later it was playing at a much closer theater than the one we shlepped off to.
3) ...started my grown-up SW fanfic career with Father's Heart.

4 years ago I...

1) ...had been working at my current job for about six months.
2) ...celebrated the turn of the millennium alone in my dorm room, with a bottle of champagne and CNN. Must try to better for the next one.
3) ...began working with a_p_ and ladyaeryn on By the Grace of Lady Vader. (Holy cow. Four years? But check out the post date (I'm JediGaladriel).

3 years ago I...

1) ...moved to my current location (Feb 2002), which still feels like my new place and for which I am still grateful every day.
2) ...had finally finished The Penitent (last story post date, 7/5/01), an apparently endless round robin story that I loved and hated, and that basically swallowed everything I wrote in SW, like a great big omnivorous blob.
3) ...started a bunch of long SW fics that never got finished; I knew I was starting to burn out.

2 years ago I...

1) ...was working with a_p_ on The Ascension of the Queen (about halfway through). Again, verifiable date. Also, began my first HP fanfic, Summer Strangers (archived 01/03)
2) ...visited the same oldest friends, meeting up in Asheville, NC, to see Attack of the Clones, though I cheated that year and saw it on opening night before meeting up with them.
3) ...joined the SQ message boards (Dec 2002).

1 year ago I...

1) ...won a Firebolt for my Forbidden Forest competition entry, The Hinkypunk's Lure. It hangs in my living room.
2) ...was worried because I hadn't gotten a Thanksgiving invitation from the fam yet.
3) ...got my LiveJournal.

So far this year I...

1) ...broke my heel bone and sprained my ankle badly (getting out of bed in the morning).
2) ...picked up an old story to start writing on again.
3) ...opted not to apply for a higher level job 'cause it ain't worth the headache, and besides, it would take me away from where I am.

Yesterday I...

1) ...woke up, looked out the window, and said to my roommate, "I don't remember giving it permission to snow, let alone accumulate."
2) ...wrote a Shifts section.
3) ...ordered Chinese food for dinner.

Today I...

1) ...need to eat something healthy.
2) ...made an icon.
3) ...Made up a bunch of challenges to myself on The Redeemed, hopefully to redeem myself by actually, you know, doing them.

Tomorrow I...

2) ...must go to work. Blech.
3) ...Really have to finish an essay and a review for Saga Journal, as they're due.

3) ...had a non-western history teacher that everyone called "Orangutan" or "Rango," because of his bizarrely long arms.

And a nicely rounded belly that with the arms made the name fit even more!

1) ...was a college sophomore at Tufts.

And I came to visit you! And threw M&M's at the rat!

Sorry, I had to comment on those two!

Oh, I could go on with 1984 teachers, including Candy Kotex, the Ape-Man, the wolf man (oh, no, he was 8th grade art, not ninth)... science teacher whose name is temporarily escaping me who taught us genetics by saying, "I have little blue eyes. My wife has little blue eyes. If she had a kid with big brown eyes, I'd be having a talk with the mailman."

Oh, and on the college visit, goldfish... and leaving messages on the rat's machine... and reading 'Salem's Lot out loud and stocking the window with religious symbols because we creeped ourselves out.
