Illustmaker me

I like my job sometimes

It's a half day at school, so when I came in (the afternoon shift), we were pretty crowded with kids trying to find something to do that didn't involve chopping stale bread into little cubes to be seasoned with sage and onion later on. Or at least, so I guess. ;) When I got in, three of our regular boys were gathered around the desk, talking anime. That morphed into talking Harry Potter, since they know I'm into that, and then somehow we got onto horror movies, which led into freaky stories we knew. I told them a couple of creepy urban legends I've come across, including one that scared the bejeezus out of me when I was a college freshman (it was this old chestnut--with a few random grace notes added involving an, um, extremely sociable roommate--loyally reported by Snopes, though at the time, I hadn't heard it before and there's nothing like being away from home for the first time to make anything feel believeable), and one of them wanted to know more of them, so I sent him up to get a couple of collections of them, and he was so amused by the book that he started reading it out loud to anyone who happened to be in earshot.

Anyway, I really enjoy having a job where storytelling can just happen spontaneously and go on for two hours with a bunch of nice kids. I forget that sometimes when I worry about the administrative minutiae.
