Odd thought...
Vulcans are werewolves.

I was just thinking about it in regard to the concept of "filing off serial numbers," maybe trying to do an original character jumping off from where I've been playing with Remus. I thought about science fiction, maybe someone who has a disease that makes a normally reasonable person go a little wacky at some random catalyst, and then I thought, Huh, that's called pon farr, isn't it?

Really, the Vulcan is a werewolf archetype, Jekyll and Hyde--most of the time, he's pure superego, always treading the upward path. But every seven years, bam--pure id, pure animal.

Just an odd thought I happened to stumble across in my brain, and since I have an LJ, hey, why not share it?

Vulcans are an alien race invented by Gene Roddenberry for his classic SF TV show "Star Trek." They are an extremely logical people and have mastered the art of self-control...except during pon farr, the once-every-seven-years period when bonded pairs, um, go into heat.

I am weirdly and deeply amused by this idea. But it makes sort of sense. I'd argue that it's more a Jekyll/Hyde thing, but since that is merely a variation on the Werewolf archetype I get where you're coming from.

Guess that proves there reqally only are a set number of stories in the world, huh?

I'm still waiting for some Trek/Potter crossover fanfic, if only because I'd like to see how Snape's occlumency would hold up against the Vulcan mindmeld . . . ;-)
