Ah, a little bit of time off ahead does wonders. Also doing stupid… - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Ah, a little bit of time off ahead does wonders. Also doing stupid girly things like painting my fingernails and toenails, and crimping my hair with braids for a little body. I had to finally bite the bullet and get three inches of split ends chopped, but what's left is nice and healthy, and it's not short, just short of bra-strap length. Hopefully, it will grow back out quickly; it always does. But in the meantime, hey, no tangly straggly splits, and it's all shiny, so it's good.

Haven't quite got hold of Snape's voice for part 2 of "Dance By the Light..." I think I may have to do the structure in three mega-parts, of which the mini-parts I post are chapter-ish things. It's shaping up to be fairly complex and long. Which means, hey, it should occupy me until July 16, if I'm assiduous about it.

I'm trying to figure out how many serial numbers I have to file off a thing before I don't feel like I'm writing fanfic anymore. I got out an old, old SW AU--an AU written between Ep1 and Ep2, AU done on a speculation that didn't pan out, dealing with the aftermath of a slave rebellion on Tatooine and a very weirded out Order. (The title was "The True Order," and if I decide I can file enough of the GFFA off of it to make it an original story, I won't put it at HB; if I can't, I'll put it up. Old JCers may remember it. It involved Luke and Leia as slaves to Watto, and blind Kitster.) It's not a bad story. It has nearly nothing left to do with SW--the Jedi Order plays a huge role, but it's been changed beyond recognition. And of course, the characters are the characters... except that they've lived entirely different lives. The problem is, can I mentally make the disconnect?

(Oh, and the fact that I don't remember how it was supposed to end anymore. I never got past the rescue of the twins and a visit from ghost!Anakin.)

The idea's worth dusting off. The concept of toxic fallout from high idealism still interests me.

About to the top of where my bra is on my back--that line that's under the scapulae--so beyond shoulder length--but not at the waist, so not waist-length. Kind of mid-back, I guess.

I enjoy the fact that you just used the word scapulae to describe how long your bra straps are. :)

Maybe you could use the fic as a plot bunny, and write a story where, under a strange set of circumstances, Luke and Leia are on a mission and end up as slaves in Watto's shop. There, they find out the conditions of slavery, and get better ideas of how to end it in the rebellion, and find out some of their father's past.

On a semi-related note, I have some more fanart for you, what email address should I send it to, so I know you'll get it?

The aol one is probably good. It seems my gmail got totally flooded--I mean, there's lots of room, but I forgot to check it for ages.

The thing is, I'd like to see if I can make it not a SW story. I don't think I'll be writing any more SW; I think I've said everything in my head on the subject.

Serial numbers

Hey, I remember that fic on the JC. I was a bit disappointed when it died, because I thought it had great potential. Reading it again, in any form, especially by you, should be great.

When it comes to "filing off the serial numbers" - remember that SW itself started by GL taking the famous Japanese "The Fortress", changing the setting to a GFFA, and then slowly letting things morph over a couple of rewrites. Imperial bureaucrats became droids, a mystical princess was split into a rebel princess and an aspiring orphaned night, a grizzled batle hardened general was split into an old wizard and a swashbuckling pirate, and the Fortress became the Death Star...

From what you post here, I know that as opposed to GL (Oh Boy, as opposed!) you're not big on total concept re-writes, you like to have the story arc well plotted in advance. But why not plot the story arc within SW (since it wasn't finished yet), the see what change fo setting would work. At worst, you'd get an SW fanfic to write when HBP turns you off HP forever :p And at best, you could develop the story into a fantasy/thriller short or novel.
