American Idol - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
American Idol
Well, watching the show. '70s dance music, aka, DISCO. Just call it that. Everyone knows it. Why hide it? The problem with disco, of course, is that it all sounds alike, because the music wasn't the point, just that funky backbeat that you could hustle to. Wocka-wocka-wocka. Hard to for anyone to shine.

Constantine--I like CM, but I've got to go with Randy this week. Awright. He's got stage presence, though, and looked like he was having fun. This has been a pleasant surprise about him. At first, I thought he was going to pull some "rocker attitude" and be a jerk about other genres, but he's cool about it and looks like he's having a rocking good time. That's attractive.

Carrie--Great voice, crappy rendition of "McArthur Park." What's with the judges giving all kinds of praise on it? I don't get it. She's fine and I hope she makes it through, but that song was just painful... and I actually like the song. It was just horrible here.

Scott Savol is Scott Savol. I don't like him, he makes my nose twitch. That said, his vocals were all right. I'll give him a good grade on the vocal. Won't give him votes, though.

Anthony--Poor song choice. Good for his range, but it's not as much fun as the other disco songs (however alike they sound), and it's not really showing off how fun and cool Anthony is. Like Simon says, "A little insipid."

Vonzell--Hmmm. I don't think anyone can go wrong with "I'm Every Woman," but I didn't think anyone could go wrong with "McArthur Park," so... Let's see. Well. Vonzell certainly isn't going wrong with it. Great vocal, energetic performance. I like it. So do the judges. Yay. Go, Vonzell.

Anwar--This is definitely not his strong suit. Though he dances better than Anthony... I'll give him that! This arrangement is leaning more on the AI background singers than on Anwar, though. Okay, as he gets into it, he's better, but he's still not enunciating. Awright. I feel bad for Simon getting booed for giving a pretty darned good evaluation.

Bo--Sums up his dancing very well. ;) Oh, he's cheating, not doing a disco tune. Not fair. He's falling into the rocker thing, which is his thing, but defeats the purpose of switching genres all the time. "Vehicle" is not a dance tune, disco or not. So, no. Not voting Bo this week.

Okay, by my wishes, bottom three should be
Scott, Carrie, Anthony (though I like Anthony, I like the remaining four better)... with Scott going, going, gone.

By the performances, if I'm being honest, it should probably be
Anwar, Carrie, Anthony... with, wince, Anwar going. I'd hate bidding farewell to the TEH PRETTY, though.

By popularity and guesswork, I'd say the bottom three will be
Scott, Anthony, Anwar. And I think there's actually a real chance that Scott will go. Which is too bad, since this week he was comparatively better than some of the others, though I won't be exactly sad no matter how he happens to go, as long as he goes.

Pleeeeeease let Scott go. Please. Like you said, there's just something about him that irks me to no end. No matter how hard I try I just can't like him.

And if Bo ends up in the bottom three this week, America just shouldn't be allowed to vote. Especially if Scott ends up getting more votes than the others in the bottom three. >.

My problem with Bo is that he cheated on the week's theme, and chose a song that was really outside of the group of songs he should have used. The others could have played to their strengths as well--Carrie could have taken a John Denver tune (maybe "Grandma's Feather Bed"), Constantine could have done another Queen tune, Anthony could have done some Billy Joel. But they all stuck with the theme of the show, which was seventies dance tunes, not seventies rock.

They called it 70's, not disco, so how did he cheat? Maybe the rest of them should have checked the 70's charts. We could have had Queen, Styx, Yes, James Taylor, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac. I danced to all of them in the 70's. And I was among those teens of the 70's who proclaimed, "Disco Sucks!" (but I liked dancing to it, too) So yes, I voted for Bo this week.

No, they didn't call it '70s... they called it '70s dance. "Vehicle" isn't a dance song. Later seventies, you might get some urban cowboy dance songs, but the majority of the '70s, dance songs meant disco. "Vehicle" just doesn't have a dance beat.

The theme of my prom was "Come Sail Away" by Styx. We danced to it. Disco didn't really start to get widely noticed in my bunch til about 1977. I think 70's dance music is much broader than disco. And don't they make the contestants choose from a list of approved songs?

I think Styx is danceable, and yes, it's broader than disco, I shouldn't have said that... but it doesn't extend to "Vehicle." That isn't a "dance tune." And it's clear that the intent of the themed weeks is to make people sing the same genre so they can be fairly compared to one another, even in weeks where it's not the person's strong suit.

Okay, fair enough. But his song was pre-approved, so blame the producers.

Like I told FernWithy a couple of weeks back, I think y'all have really great intuition and are sensing the fact that he once was arrested for domestic abuse.

He's still allowed to participate because he mentioned his charges during the audition process.

I predict Carrie will go.

On the basis of the tacky hair, I'd go along with that. But I'm not sure. She seems to be fairly favored.

I agree with you. Scott gets on my last nerve. He has nerve to try to act offended when Simon tells him stuff. He said some kind of comment before the "God Bless you" comment and I was like :\

I also heard that he and Vonzelle are kinda involved, please NO. *groans*

I like Carrie but yes her hair and everything else was tacky, the song sucked, she might go home because heck Nadia picked a bad song and she was booted.

Paula is on something, I'm sure of it.

Bo Bice did something for me this week *hides face* but Constantine is my man, man does he have stage presence. My mouth dropped last week when he looked all in the camera(not the tongue thing, just the look he gave) I voted for him 10 times, lol
