Fun from jiminyc
jiminyc was inspired by Summary Executions to come up with this:

But just for the fun of writing it worse, here's a fun exercise: Take any (or all) of your fanfic stories and write intentionally bad summaries for them.

A Drift of Azaleas: Sirius goes back to Grimmauld Place to get money, and it's a total wreck. Sirius/Kreacher. (Not like that, ick!)

Conflict of Interest: Tonks comes to visit Remus and pets his doggie.

Registry: Tonks sees Remus naked and learns a BIG SECRET about him.

Beauty Marks: Marietta's accursed. Cho's really mad at Hermione. Cho brushes Marietta's hair.

Packing Up: Mad-Eye hides out in Ginny's bedroom, and she hits him with Hermione's mirror. R/R!!!!

Oh, and EDITING IN. I asked this at the Quill, but I'll ask here, too.

In the Christmas scene, when Remus tells Harry that he's been living underground among werewolves, I didn't notice any geographical distinction in the U.S. edition (maybe I'm blind?) but I remember when we were all first talking, people were saying that Remus was "in Europe" spying on werewolves (which I assume means continental Europe). Is this a difference between the editions, with the UK edition specifying this? It's kind of important to know, fanfictionally, if there's some reason he's not going to be hanging around Britain doing his thing.

Hmm, if I were going to do that for High Flight, it'd come out something like "A new girl comes to Hogwarts, but what terrible secret is she hiding? READ AND FIND OUT!!11!"

Or something like that.

I cannot find *any* mention of a location in that talk between Remus and Harry in the UK edition, so I guess it is just one of those assumptions people make.

Thanks... I didn't think I'd missed anything in the scene, so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some odd Scholastic decision (like, "Oh, American kids think of Britain as part of Europe, so saying he's in Europe would confuse them...").

Now, to find someplace for him to go underground...

All it says in the Canadian Edition, which is from what I know the same as the UK edition is that Remus has been underground amongst the werewolves "almost literally."

Those summaries are still making my giggle and I've read them, like, six times now. It was perfect that you posted them today, too, because I was reccing your fics to a friend and I started at your LJ just to get the link to HB and so the ridiculous summaries were the first things I saw... I was just like "Oh good, let's start with this one where Tonks pets Remus's doggie!"

The funny story that led to my spending the evening reccing your fics is as follows: I went out for drinks with a few people from my choir and said friend and I had the following conversation (please keep in mind that it was literally shouted from one end of the table to the other)...

Lesley: YES!! MY FAVOURITE PAGE WAS 582. [p582 is The Lupin-and-Tonks page in the Brit/Canadian edition]
Both: *incoherent squealing*
Lesley (much later): That was SO not the answer I was expecting.

How's this: "Lupin and some friends are looking for a magic rock. They meet a muggle and have coffee."

Excellent. You should post that at your journal. ;)

Post the story, or the bad summary? ;) I'm not sure the story's ready for posting -- I'm contemplating a change that may require the first chapter to be completely re-written.
