Spewing out too many words since November 2003
A couple of weeks ago, some meme or other went around involving people showing old pictures of themselves--I don't remember what the meme was or what the rules were--and I realized that I had none here, so I asked my mom to send me stuff. It came today. It was unexpected fun--pictures of little six-year-old me in seventies plaid with pig tails, playing with my friend Jacques or cuddling with my cousins or posing with anna_fredricka and all of her siblings at my grandmother's house or... well, you all know what kinds of things you get when Mom sends kid-pictures. I'd forgotten exactly how curly my hair was when I was little. Man, I was one giant ringlet. And I was looking at a picture of my thirteenth birthday and realized that my mother in that picture was two years younger than I am now. Wow.

Your thirteenth birthday party? That would be...8th grade? Were there, you konw, *other* people in it? (cringes with fear of answer)

Yeah, but it was just Mom and my cousin Amie. Oddly, the pics were danaedark-less. I think I have most of the pics with you and "Jana" in them already, 'cause I took them. Most of these are with my cousins, though weirdly, because I got some Girl Scout troop pictures, I have the lovely Missy B. and quite a few with Beonna.

I hear you on mom age thing. At the age I am now, my mom was preggers with me. LOTS of pressure from the home front wondering why hubby and I haven't started the kid thing yet. "Your friends all have kids..." and so on. *headdesktoinfinity*

All of that's coming from inside my own head. I'm reasonably sure the fam's written me off as a contributing member. ;)

A few months ago I went back to my parent's house when a friend of mine from highschool was getting married. I found a cheap standard-Sears-package locket with a picture of my brother and I from when we were about 4 and 7. There is something fascinating about old pictures of yourself. I started wearing the necklace, and sometimes I just stare at our faces, trying to see some sort of a hint of the paths that we'e taken.

I believe it. I'm going through thinking, "Wow, there's me reading, reading, being read to, cuddling a cat in my reading corner surrounded by my books..." ;P Of course, there's also me in ballet recitals (?!) and me at several Christian holidays, in church as often as not, and me playing with children whose names I can't remember. But it's weird and fascinating, in its way. Seriously, though, what was I thinking with feathered bangs in '84?

I think there are pictures of me from a ballet recital or two, also. I don’t really remember it all that much, but I had a pretty similar reaction to the pictures!

Ah, say no more. The year ‘84 is an excuse in an off it’s self. I shudder to think of some of my, ahem, fashion statements.

Old pictures are great. A couple years ago, my grandmother was organizing a boxful, so we got to poke through Mom's childhood pics and such. It was a bit startling to realize that my grandfather was kinda cute when he was young. I also have two pictures on my filing cabinet at work of me and some cousins -- one was taken in December 2002, the other in November 1984. It's fun making people who wander through the office try to match them up.

There's some information on how it started and what it technically means, but in LJ-ese, it's these silly quizzes and random questions that go around, and everyone does them, so, sheeplike, I follow. ;)

Hey, you can't make a post like that and then not reveal the pics ;)
