Fic Quote Meme--Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings edition
Still snagged from kaluptein

Directions: Post a short quote or snippet from each of your own fics, followed by a link.

From Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

When Albus looked into the room, he felt his heart rise. It was a sea of people and candles that floated in the growing twilight, and they were all smiling, craning to see their new classmates.

I love it here, he thought quite suddenly. On his shoulder, Fawkes made a soft sound of agreement. "We'll stay," he whispered to the bird. [link]

"I'm trying to help you."

"Why would you do that?"

"Because you have always done the same for me."

"After I turned you into a monster."

"I'm not a monster," Remus said, his voice taking the tone of recitation again. "And neither are you." He stood up and reached down to her.

She batted his hand away and pulled herself toward the tree line. "You know what we are!" she shouted. "You know what I made you!"[link]

The Wolf does not know past or future, does not understand the nuances of betrayal or the depth of grief.

He knows only that he is in pain.

Sirius got up and came over. He plucked Dora up off Mr. Lupin's lap and swung her through the air. "I'm jealous," he said. "Remus can't have my Dora." He held her up over his head and blew a raspberry against her stomach, which tickled so much that Dora had to laugh, then he'd swung her down on the other side of the drill and was making all her dolls wave to her, and Dora forgot all about Mr. Lupin and Steffi, sitting quietly on the stairs together.

Sirius made all dolls get up again and march in place together. He looked at Mr. Pettigrew. "I say we start over. Dora's on my team now! I bet we can win together. Cousins united!"

"Which are our dolls?" Dora asked.

Six dolls broke off from the formation and marched over to Sirius, among them the boy doll in the long dress.

"These are ours," Sirius said. "The snappy dresser is the squad leader." [link]

Mr. Lupin knelt down beside her. "Look at yourself, Dora," he said. "What do you see?"

"Right now?"

"Yes, right now."

She shrugged. "Just me. The same as... well, the same as most of the time. I tried to give myself bosoms last month, but it didn't work right and Mum told me that I wasn't allowed to morph that way until I actually have bosoms, and I don't know why I'd want to morph them then, if they were really there." She frowned. "They were a bit uncomfortable, actually."

For some reason, Mr. Lupin laughed. When he stopped, he was still smiling, his eyes twinkling. Dora smiled back, happy to see it. "That was a bit more than I needed to know," he said, mussing her hair with his hand. [link]

Harry must have heard him coming, but he didn't move. Remus knelt down beside him.

For a long time, Harry didn't respond to his presence at all. He didn't seem to be crying--there were no hitched breaths, no shaking shoulders. He was simply still as a statue, hiding behind his hands. His glasses hung at a skewed angle from one finger.

He shook his head.

"Talk to me, Harry."

Remus moved around in front of him, placed his hands gently on the gloved wrists, and pried them apart. "Harry, talk." [link]

Malfoy would believe him for an hour, perhaps two. On other nights, that might have been enough. He would be able to gather himself and do what needed to be done. But tonight, the longer Snape had been in this room, letting the potion stock boil and simmer needlessly before him, the more he understood one fundamental truth: He was not going to kill the Weasley twins.

He was able to--he had killed in the past--and he could think of no logical reason not to, but all the same, he'd found every possible reason to put off their bleeding, and now that he was out of excuses, he still wasn't doing it. There was no question in his mind, and he didn't recall making a momentous choice. He was simply not going to take the knife to them.

This surprised him. [link]

"Now, Pet, don't pester Lily when she gets home. It's a long trip, and I'm sure she'll want to rest."

"Yes, Mum."

"And you know she can't teach you magic. They sent a letter saying she couldn't do magic over the summer, so don't pester her as you did before she left."

"Yes, Mum."

"And you can't play with her things."

"Yes, Mum." Petunia bit her lower lip. "Mum?"

"What is it?"

"How come I haven't got a letter from an owl yet? When do I get to go and buy robes? I want a wand like Lily's that shoots stars and all, like it did when we saw it in Mr. Ollivander's shop." [link]

The pier was silent as the elves tried to understand what they were seeing, and the hobbits tried to absorb it. In this silence, everyone heard, very clearly, when Sam spoke. "Mr. Frodo." Frodo heard, and turned toward them, seemingly as stunned as everyone else by his own arrival. For a moment, he looked like he might turn back to the ship, then Gala broke free of Merry's embrace and ran to where the guards were stationed at the end of the pier. Frodo came forward to meet her, slipping easily between the guards, and knelt before her. "Galadriel," he whispered, pulling her into his arms and wrapping her in his cloak. "I'm so very sorry."

She didn't hear or understand his apology; she just clung to him and wept. [link]

"What are you thinking about?" Frodo asked after awhile.

She shrugged. "Nothing of great import."

"Tell me anyway."

"Well, I... " She laughed self-consciously, not knowing whether or not she wanted to bring the subject up. "Honestly, it's nothing. I was just thinking that -- well, that I was probably the only girl my age in the Shire who's never had a kiss stolen from her. It's probably because Pippin is responsible for most of the thefts, and he's my first cous -- "

She stopped abruptly, feeling Frodo's lips brush across hers. "There," he said. "Now, you have had a kiss stolen."

She blinked owlishly in surprise, then surprised herself further by saying, "Well, I want it back" -- and taking it.

They laughed uncomfortably at one another, and it might have ended there. It might have ended if Lily had spoken first. She might not have developed any number of odd ideas that occurred to her first that evening. But Frodo spoke first, and her doom was sealed by it. "Perhaps we could share one," he said. [link]

I am proud to say that I identified the source of every single quote by the time I'd read the first sentence. :S Am I a FernwithyFicJunkie or what! :)

If it's of any interest to you, the quote that grabbed me most was the one from "Invisible"; the story I thought you could have picked a better quote from was "Cry With The Moon"; and my absolute, all-time favourite story from this bunch is the very first one - the first chapter of "Of A Sort". Ooooh.
