Poem rec, 4/6 -- The Apology
How about some Emerson? (That would be of the Ralph Waldo variety, not the other kind.)

I found this one while I was looking for short poems to tape to the tables in here--a pretty musing on the apparent laziness of creativity, where everything figures into it.

THINK me not unkind and rude
    That I walk alone in grove and glen;
I go to the god of the wood
    To fetch his word to men.

Tax not my sloth that I
    Fold my arms beside the brook;
Each cloud that floated in the sky
    Writes a letter in my book.

Chide me not, laborious band,
    For the idle flowers I brought;
Every aster in my hand
    Goes home loaded with a thought.

There was never mystery
    But 'tis figured in the flowers;
Was never secret history
    But birds tell it in the bowers.

One harvest from thy field
    Homeward brought the oxen strong;
A second crop thine acres yield,
    Which I gather in a song.

I like it. I'm not familiar with Emerson's poetry. His prose can be pretty odd, but this is nice.

Oh dear. This one is just begging for a response poem.

I don't think I recall coming across it before. I like it.

That's a lovely poem; I have always loved the last two lines.

Also, erm, I don't normally pimp my own LJ, but if you give mine a look, I've found some pretty cool poems to post over the last few days. *scuffs shoe shyly in dirt* I mean, if you wanna...
