Boston Marathon - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Boston Marathon
I think I'm going to go up and watch some runners today. I've been watching them on TV for a while now. They make me feel very flabby and unhealthy. ;) But I'll take my camera and see if I can get some good marathon shots. I was walking around on Saturday after work (I totally forgot the hp_boston meetup!), and the city is totally crowded with marathon visitors. I feel I should at least take in part of what people are coming from so far to see.

By pure chance I stopped into a little restaurant that had the TV on during the time when the winners of the men's and women's races both came across the line. The women's race was fairly close, and by the time I left they were still thinking that the man had beat the course record by one second. Waiting for it to be official, tho.

I saw the leaders going by B.C. (snapped pics) but by the time I got to the finish line (after several detours), they were toward the end of the pack. (Yes, I walked the last four miles of the course or so, following along. It tired me out walking. Part of it.)

I envy you. I would love to be there to watch the marathon. I'm a slow marathoner hoping/working to become faster; Qualifying to run Boston is the dream at the end of the rainbow.

Wow, that would be cool. It's a good crowd--I'd never really spent any time in it, but everyone gets cheered, and if someone looks a little lonely, people on the sidelines will be all, "You rock, 2-6!" or "Go, 1049!"

Alas, even if I were in excellent shape, I'd never make it as a runner. My natural body is short-legged and stocky at best. Sigh. But I'd cheer for you!
