Dreams - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
I love dreams I can remember, though they almost never make sense. One night a couple of years ago, I had three completely parallel dreams that involved being in places I knew well and was supposed to be, but which were inhabited by strangers. I know that had some kind of psychological meaning, but I can think of half a dozen of them, so I can't really narrow it down.

Last night was more of the totally nonsensical, but completely coherent, variety. I was at a place that my dreaming mind thought was Silver Lake (though it bore no resemblance whatsoever to the actual Silver Lake I know), and I was babysitting for a famous actress who I didn't recognize, who had a child too old to need a babysitter (she was about thirteen, and wore her hair in two side-braids). My roommate's cat was, for whatever reason, the household pet. I kept forgetting I was babysitting, because the girl was just sitting around the living room, but as it got late, I went down to check on her and we got gabbing about why she had a babysitter. I opined that it was because her mother didn't want her wandering around the lake at night with the local kids, and she sniffed that she only went out alone anyway. Then we went outside--with Jelly Roll the cat--and hung out on a pier that came out from the back patio, and Jelly Roll jumped into the lake and started happily fishing. Then the nameless girl and I got called away by someone dressed like a joker in a deck of cards, and I kept trying to go back to get Jelly, and the joker finally got fed up with me and went diving and came back with the cat. Just before I woke up, she kind of rolled her eyes at me and tossed him over.

:shakes head:

Off-topic, this is driving me crazy--for some reason, whenever I'm in the "Update Journal" part of LJ, every time it autosaves, it makes the screen wider, and now, even after this short a post, I have a huge horizontal scroll. Is that happening to anyone else?

Yeah, it's been happening to me. There have been so many changes lately, though, that I haven't been sure whether it's a permanent thing or not.

I guess this is what I get for being technologically challenged!

Oh, I thought it was just me because I upgraded to a sponsored account ant the advertisement had screwed up the layout. Weird.

I was thinking it was the sponsored account doing it, but maybe not...I have noticed that problem, now that you mention it.

My personal favourite part of the dream is the fact the cat is called Jelly Roll. Seems like you are a responsible person but can have fun at the same time. And you love animals.

Or maybe I'm just reading too much into this.

Oops, the last link revealed more about my neighborhood than I should have in an open post. ;)

The cat's name really is Jelly Roll... my roommie gets credit; he actually belongs to her. Though I gave him his title, Mousebane, after he caught a mouse trying to sneak under the door.

And, yes, I LOVE animals. Cats are my faves, but I'm no purist. I also love dogs. And ferrets. And birds. And turtles. And hamsters and gerbils and guinea pigs. I even like snakes, as long as they're not trying to kill me.

That is definitely a roly-poly cat! He has an appropriate name. :) I'm an animal lover myself.
