Good job, British intelligence - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Good job, British intelligence
My heartfelt thanks to British intelligence for breaking up the terror plot.

It's my true hope that the terrorists are allowed to live. In a prison run by a tough-as-nails divorced female warden with a doctorate. Who provides them with only Danish-import food and periodicals.

Now that's punishment to the fullest extent of the law.

Don't forget the weekend treat - rashers of bacon with their Danish-butter based pancakes!

Yes, I am culturally insensitive on occasion.

Unless they send them to Pakistan or the US (which is unlikely) they'll definitely be left alive. They don't apply the death penalty in the UK. Those arrested in Pakistan, though...they could be in for a rough time.

As far as I'm aware, the only things you can be still be executed for in Britain are high treason (includes having an affair with the heir to the throne's wife, although I think that one's unlikely ever to be used again).

As to what happens to them, I suppose given the high profile, the Britons arrested are unlikely to be disappeared to a US interrogation centre, which is, in my view, a good thing even if the people they've arrested are all guilty.

But, yes, go British intelligence! I feel a warm glow of patriotic pride, or something like that. Certainly very relieved.

Nope, no death penalty at all in the UK now. We got rid of it for high treason sometime during the nineties.

That's a relief!

errr... not that I'm planning to commit treason, or anything.

Hmmm, I kinda like the way you think.

None of that really good Danish blue cheese that's sitting in my fridge right now, though. Way too delicious to waste on terrorists.

Dear me, in Scandinavia Danish food is considered as very good - do they export the bad to the US?

Just an aside - no European country has the death penality!

no European country has the death penality!

Maybe not officially, but I sincerely doubt that it's impossible for someone to reach the inside of a prison from the outside. Even when New York didn't have the death penalty, prison wasn't an entiriely safe place. ;)

And no, Danish food has no bad reputation (well, no worse than being a bit bland)... but given the cartoon controversy and calls to boycott Danish products, I thought that giving them the choice of either eating Danish produts or starving would be a nice touch.
