New LJ format - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
New LJ format
Is anyone else having trouble highlight to copy-paste in the new LJ format? Any time I have the plain page up (like, say, the update page, or the basic page with no styles attached), I can drag the mouse around all I want and it won't highlight any text at all. Which makes it kind of hard to copy things to respond to, or to do my obsessive word counts when I post.

The hell?

Me too. I thought it was just my browser acting up but you're probably right about it having something to do with the new format.

I finally found my way to "known issues," which they have left out a link for, and discovered that it is, in fact, a known issue. Grrr. So fix it!!!!

So not an improvement. Kind of like our new bus pass system, which adds about ten seconds to each boarding passenger, because you can't just swipe the card anymore.

Yeah, I have had trouble too. I thought it was just my mouse playing up, because it always does that.

I hadn't noticed, but yeah, looks like. (Mac OSX on Safari, here.)

http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/ But you can always change it back until they fix it. (Or indefinitely, if you prefer.) Eh? :)

It's a problem that's affecting IE more than Firefox, I believe, but this is the explanation I read on someone else's journal:

It's a problem with the javascript in Horizon, affecting IE; devs know about it and will fix it asap. (For the moment, the only ways around it are (a) using ctrl-A to select everything on the page, which is annoying, though you can also double-click to select a word and triple-click to select a some-amount-more; (b) use a different browser; or (c) use a different sitescheme. But yeah, it should be fixed soon.)

Yeah, I noticed it at work (IE), but not at home (Firefox).

Mostly, I like the new stuff. But this? Has to be fixed. It's mucho annoying.

I have the same problem. And it hasn't only been LJ - I can't think of the page off the top of my head, but I know there's been problems copying and pasting a few places, which makes me think perhaps there's a new anti-C&P gadget out there. Which does make quoting and such hard.

OMGosh, YES! I hadn't realized it was an LJ problem! I was trying to test part of a post I made last night, that I had put under white-colored font for spoilers, and I couldn't understand why it wouldn't highlight.

Hmm, maybe I'll drop a line to LJ tech support.

Dude, we know :) They are working on it, but it being the weekend... you know, people aren't always around :) (just want to save you from getting a 'thanks, we know" reply :P ).

Oh, good! I will refrain from clogging the system, then. As long as it'll be fixed eventually, I can wait (I mean, in the grand scheme of things, it's a pretty small annoyance, yeah?)

Thanks for letting me know, Jen :)

I can highlight but just now I tried to click-drag an icon and it didn't work.

Heh...I asked the same question myself yesterday in my journal - and got the same answer.

Oh good, I thought it was just my computer. :x

Actually, I think it's finally fixed. I've been able to highlight things as of this post.

However, if you ever have that problem again, you can get around it this way. Instead of dragging to highlight, click the cursor where you want the highlight to begin, then shift/click where you want it to end (and use ctrl-C to copy instead of right clicking). The highlight will appear out of thin air! ;) No incantation, no silly wand waving. I prefer that method when I'm highlighting blocks of text which exceed the size of my screen.

No, no. Don't thank me. *grin*

I've also noticed it with Yahoo mail. I thought it was my cursor, then I thought it may be Firefox.

Either way, very annoying.

Yep. Making me crazy too. But only on IE, not through my other browsers. I mean the new scheme is cool and all, but if you can't highlight and copy paste, give me the old one back.

Yay, it's not just me! I thought my mouse was dying.

Probably a bug in the new system.

same here, I was wondering if there was something wrong with my PC. I hope they fix it soon, it's really irritating.
