Question for teens reading this
What's your favorite (non-porn) website?

Just looking for design ideas that teens like. I'm not really expecting to find a pattern. :)

I'm on the high end of teen, by the way. Design-wise? I really lean towards the simplified, readable things. I like Wikipedia, so sue me. The new Livejournal layout gives me headaches because it's all this dropdown flashy stuff and I can't find anything. I like pictures and stuff, don't get me wrong, but I absolutely need to be able to navigate it easily before I can accept anything else. I'm not a big fan of massive mouse-hovers, either, where the whole page goes crazy if you mouse over something. And yes, I am aware that I'm secretly a crotchety old woman.

I was also thinking of Wikipedia! (And am also on the high end of teen.)

Do you mean design-wise, content-wise, or what? And by favorite, do you mean the one I visit the most? If so, then my favorite is probably Sugar Quill or Livejournal. If you want design, I'd go with Leaky Cauldron. I don't know, most of the websites I visit are fandom-related, though I occasionally go over to a news site like New York Times or abcnews.com.

I'm 19 1/2, but still a teen!

I love facebook obsessively. And lj. They're simple and easy-to-use. I'm also a big fan of phoenixsong.net.

On the high end of teenager I guess.
I'm a fan of layouts like wikipedia, livejournal or facebook and I really like the fandomtalk.com layout for some reason. Simple but not boring.
Mugglenet's good in that you can kind of choose your own layout to a certain extent.

I was a teenager until a month ago... do I count? My favourites haven't really changed in a couple of years or so. There's LJ, obviously, and facebook, and then the others I always check are www.nationstates.net, postsecret.blogspot.com, myspace (because I have a band page there) and www.notcot.org. When I was 15/16, I was very into an rpg called tazlure (it's at www.tazlure.nl) as well, which I know a lot of teenaged people play. Oh, and I listened to www.last.fm a lot up until about a year ago. They all tend to be quite clean layouts - single colour backgrounds, easy navigation etc. Myspace I only use because it's necessary - I absolutely hate both the layout and the navigation. There's too many ads and it's hard to work out how to change bits of it. I much prefer facebook :) On the other hand, a lot of people seem to prefer myspace to facebook.

Hopefully that helps!

Heh, not last resort posted at the same time as me - postsecret is obviously popular! Sorry, it seems I've mainly repeated what everyone else has said!

I'm in my late teens as well (just turned 18), but my preferences are similar: I like wikipedia, facebook, and livejournal. In terms of general preferences, I like sites that are easy to navigate. Good luck with your website!

(17 years old. 18 at the end of the month.)

I like LJ, for the most part, but I think a lot of it depends on how people format their journals. But it's a simplistic, yet visually appealing format. Same goes for SQ, and Facebook. I like Mugglenet, too. It can be a little busy, but the side bar menu is my favourite type of menu. I'm not as fond of the format of TLC, though I can't pinpoint why.

And I hate myspace.

Not Myspace, that's for sure.

Er, I'm actually 20, but...I've only been 20 for a few months, and anyway I've had strong opinions on websites for years.

Generally--and I know this isn't very specific--I just like a clean, uncluttered layout that looks reasonably professional and is easy to navigate. Facebook is pretty nice that way. I'm not thinking of anything else offhand, at the moment, but then there aren't many sites I visit anymore except blogging sites.

Design-wise, I'd definitely go with LGF. That is one elegant comment system. (I also visit the place a whole lot, despite the fact that half the commenters are total nutcases.)
