Dreams... - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Okay, I'm officially innoculated against any badness that Deathly Hollows happens to have in it. It can't top the dream I had. (Kind of analogous to a dream I had about Attack of the Clones, in which I went to the movie and found the whole thing was Anakin and Padmé standing around a subway station discussing litter. Anything had to be relief at that point.)

So, my dream took place in July, and everyone had a copy of DH. The first forty pages were a glossy sort of juvie book, with cross-sections of broomsticks and explanations of flying. Then we moved into the narrative (which I saw like a movie), in which the Hogwarts Great Hall was portrayed like a particularly dingy American high school cafeteria, and Harry was moping around about how he had to leave to do the Voldemort thing. So off he heads, alone--Ron and Hermione couldn't be bothered, because they had other things to do--and pretty much defeated Voldemort in about two seconds. Unfortunately, somehow or other, this made everyone die. Everyone. The story picks up five hundred years later on a different planet and has nothing to do with anything that came before it. There are math equations in the middle of the page, which have something to do with the plot, but I didn't do well in calculus and can't figure them out. I can't find any references back to Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, or Hogwarts. It's just this other thing where there are people in a cafeteria. They may or may not be talking about litter.

It ends at no logical point, and just kind of peters out mid-scene with these other people.

A newspaper review I read in the course of the dream called it a daring and unexpected turn.

I believe I can now handle anything that's actually likely to show up as a "daring and unexpected turn."

That's even worse than the dream I had before book 5 came out. I dreamt that it was 800 pages set during Harry's summer break and that NOTHING happened. Harry kept getting trapped with boring people who wanted to tell him about their lives. The Gray Lady was sent to guard him during the summer and wound up giving him a detailed account of her relationship with Nearly Headless Nick that was completely inappropriate for her to be telling a 15 year old boy but that was also the most boring thing ever written. That was in the first week of summer vacation and I realized it was going to be 800 pages of Harry dying of boredom while trying to look vaguely interested while people talked to him and nothing happened.

That's gotta be the funniest thing I've ever heard!

So that must have prepared you well for the Grawp sections...

your dream is hilariously AWESOME!

Icon love! Did you make it? Would you mind if I were to save it?

onionsarelife From: onionsarelife Date: April 10th, 2007 03:40 am (UTC) (Link)
Thanks! I actually did not make it but a friend made it for me based on our overly caffinated conversations on why there are curtains on the cover! XD

I want to thank you though for asking permission! I have been having some issues with some rude people who took icons without asking and yeah...people are stupid.

But yes, you can save the icon if you want but be sure to credit it to prosodi as she is the genius who made it!

Thank you! I credit in uderinfo; I hope that's okay. :)

Just goes to show how completely crazy dreams can get. You aren't the only one who sometimes wakes up remembering crazy things like this though, goodness knows I've had my fair share as well.

You're right about one thing though, I think that you'll definately be able to handle whatever "daring and unexpected turn" JKR decides to throw at us.

But it can't be worse than my OotP dream: the entire book was printed on blue toilet tissue not unlike that in my grandmother's "nice" bathroom.... (Because they had to print so many copies, you see. They had to cut corners.)

Heh! Was it perfumed, too?

(This may be one of the few times I've used that and actually been laughing out loud.)

I'm particularly fond of it picking up five hundred years later on another planet.

Yeah, that just added the sooper speshul deleterian touch.

500 years later on another planet... were there other characters there? Was it some sort of crossover?
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: April 7th, 2007 05:21 pm (UTC) (Link)
One character from a story I wrote in college (a colonist named Inali who, in my story, was unjustly accused of something, but who was here just kind of wandering around). Other than that, completely, utterly random.

A crossover with one of your original stories... clearly you feel you can do a better job that JKR did.

You're SUCH an egomaniac :-)

You bet! As long as we scratch out the part where it was a really dull nightmare, of course. ;p
ncp From: ncp Date: April 7th, 2007 05:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, the books have been getting darker as they go on. Maybe a throughly dull ending is necessary, given that the primary audience is children who might get scared otherwise?

Awesome dream. Monty Pythons would be proud of it. :)

Wow. Tough night. Now I know how you are able to give Remus such interesting dream sequences. (I've been reading "Shifts" to a friend recently.) I guess your right after that you are ready for anything JKR can throw at us.

Wow, and here I was thinking I was the only one geeky enough to have weird dreams about book series. Heck, the weird dreams about such things I occasionally have tend to be the only ones I remember. Due to one such I have a persistent and almost certainly untrue belief about how New Doctor Who Series Three is going to end which I can't seem to shake.

Did you eat anything odd (smoke anything weird) or something before you went to bed? That sort of thing can really play tricks with your dreams.

Well, I somehow doubt JKR would be dealing with math equations.;)

Wow now that was a dream!

Oh Bob! I hope it turns out like the other one! Bleh!

I thought of you the other day when TLC posted the story about DH being in the 'Restricted Section'. Since you're the juvy section at your library, will you get a sneak peek? *insanely jealous at even the thought!*

Someone should illustrate that, or make a film out of it. It's about fifty times funnier than any comedy show I've seen in months...
My dreams most times stop before I get to reading anything...
