What Will Nigel Do? (WWND) - The Phantom Librarian

What Will Nigel Do? (WWND)
In the comments to my OotP review, trude and I realized that...

...the character of Nigel, heretofore unseen and unheard-of in canon, is clearly the key to many things. As he is likely to be savaged by Greyback in the next movie, trude pointed out the obvious fact that he is R.A.B., and I think he may be a Horcrux as well. If he's not too busy, he can take over Neville's new role of filling in for all of Dobby's useful contributions.

But that's not enough for Nigel! Nigel needs more to do. Could he be Dumbledore from the future? Time-traveling Phineas Nigellus? Is he a werewolf? Maybe the Heir of Gryffindor?

I leave it to my trusty f-list: What will Nigel do next? ;p

(Standard disclaimer: I don't mind the Nigel character, actually, and suspect he started his life as the perfectly canonical Dennis Creevey. It's just that, in a movie where a bunch of canon characters didn't get lines, putting him there just begs for even more expansion.)

Nigel is the Half-Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows!

Love your icon, drakyndra! Loveitloveitloveit!

I just saw that episode last night and that was my favorite line!

Oh, and Nigel is just an amalgam of several other characters so they won't have to cast so many extra kids, imo. An example would be Ewan McGregor's character in Black Hawk Down. His character's experiences didn't represent just one soldier, but were taken from the experiences of several.

Clearly, Nigel is the heir of Gryffindor and therefore the last Horcrux.
Of course he is also probably so drunk on Butterbeer, from taking over Winkie's role, that you can do absolutely anything you want with him.

He is a personification of the Power of Lurve. As missile in the traditional Scottish sport "Tossing the Nigel", Harry and he take part in the Highland Games, when along comes Voldemort - so absorbed in sampling the single malts, he doesn't notice the small, fuzzy-haired twelve year old accelerating down from the blue skies above him, until it's far too late.

Nigel is Harry's brother, quite possibly Snape's child and the next leader of the Dark Side.

I think you're right. Nigel is supposed to be Dennis Creevey. However, since we have not seen hide nor hair of that strange chubby black kid with everybody's lines in PoA, nor Colin Creevey, whose character went nowhere after that whole basilisk deal, I think he is probably Mysteriously Nebulous Plot Device #3. He may reappear as Madame Rosmerta's son, fathered by Remus Lupin in a hurt/comfort fic that has not yet been written. Any volunteers?

He's a metamorph. Not only was he Dennis Creavy, he was also the chubby black kid and Nigel. In Book 6, he'll be Terry Boot, who will suddenly have tons of screen time.

It all begins to make sense. Nigel is really 'Trevor', Neville's toad.

Isn't it obvious? Nigel is the love child of Aberforth and the goat.

He devoured the Creeveys alive.

OK, I don't know who he is and I haven't seen OotP yet, but these comments are the best laugh I've had in awhile. :P

Nigel is clearly Nagini. After Wormtail got away, Voldemort saw that he needed a super-loyal spy that was even more inconspicuous than a rat - the most obvious solution being a pupil! Unbeknownst to us, Nagini is actually an anthromorphmagus - an animal that can metamorphose into a human!

This means that the entire DA had numerous chances to destroy a Horcrux. Oh, if only they'd known what they were practicing their levitation on...

Nigel is Dumbledore.

If he's savaged by Greyback, does he also get engaged to Fleur?
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: July 16th, 2007 12:19 am (UTC) (Link)
Actually, it turns out he is Fleur. It's a strange shapeshifting talent held by all part-veela.

Nigel and the CBK

Well obviously, Nigel is Hermione and Professor Snape's love child from when she used the time turner to go back to circa 1970's Hogwarts. Hermione used her time turner to go check to make sure that Snape hadn't become a Death Eater after all, getting stuck in the present. Dumbledore hid Nigel with RAB. Grief stricken Snape, thinking his young wife had run off with his young son, turned to Voldemort, because he is sure that is wife's Muggle blood caused her to leave.
Sadly, I think that this may have already been a pre-OotP fanfic.
I had thought that the CBK was Dean Thomas, but some wandering around makes him appear to be a separate character.

Re: Nigel and the CBK

Oops, should have been "his wife's" and not "is wife's". I am not Hagrid, I know what h's are.
Wishing that spell check would get grammar too.

Nigel was in GoF too, since your entries on him make it sound as if you hadn't noticed that. In the (gratuitous, but awesome) study hall scene, he's carrying Ron's things around for him. I even have an icon left over from movie reviews.
