Victoire's chart ;p - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Victoire's chart ;p
A couple of people asked about Victoire's chart of relations in this storylet, so...

I didn't do the whole chart because I didn't feel like making up nearly a hundred people on the island for a story I'm not planning to write, but the eleven mentioned on the island--other than Teddy and Victoire--are:

Mira (Lupin) Dursley: Teddy and Victoire's eldest, 49 years old
Vern Dursley: Her husband, Dudley and Parvati's son
Keith Dursley: Their son (26), Teddy and Victoire's grandchild, recently seeing Gwen Weasley (22), also living on the island). Has chosen to study the Muggle field of Anthropology.
(For the record, as far as I've gotten, they have three other children, Amisha (Dursley) Hornby (23), Ajay Dursley (19), and Josephine Dursley (who still lives at home on the island). Amisha and her husband have one child.)

John Lupin (26): Teddy and Victoire's grandchild, son of their son Orion. He and his wife Aurora (Rackharrow) live there with two daughters, Carina and Diana.

Sirius Lupin (45): Teddy and Victoire's son, never married, "usually" lives alone. If he has children, they are unaware of them.

Michael Macmillan (21): Teddy and Victoire's grandson, through one of their twin daughters (Apolline Fleur; her sister is Andromeda Nymphadora, and they both live in Hogsmeade; not sure if they work together or just both really liked Hogsmeade)

James Potter (63): Er... James.
Cora (Trimble) Potter (64): James's wife
Charlus Potter (43): Their son (Charlus's wife and two of his three children also live on the island)

Fred Weasley (59): George's son Fred, lives with his considerably younger wife, Alice (Longbottom) (! :D)
Gwen Weasley (22): their daughter, dating Keith Dursley

Alphard Black (31): I'm going to write a story explaining this, but since it's from Regulus's point of view, it won't spoil anything to say that this is Regulus's son, and his mother is Lily (Potter) Black. They are in London; Alphard and his wife both live on the island with their three children, of whom I only mentioned the middle child. Alphard's Teddy second cousin, once removed.
Adhara Black (5): Alphard's daughter, Teddy's third cousin. (Talk about your screwed up generation count, as Teddy's 70!)

Others of the Lupin children and grandchildren and a smattering of great-grandchildren live there, and some of the ones not currently there may go back.

Wow. That's amazing. It makes my head want to explode and I wish it were an original story!

It's a bit confusing, though I think I get it. Very interesting! You should write little oneshots about this community.

At this point, I'm so far removed from the Potterverse I may as well cut the last ties and make stories about the future Roost original. ;p

Dudley and Parvati! All right!

I think Vernon will be more freaked by the fact that she's Indian than that she's a witch, although I could be wrong.

With Petunia, I think it will be the witch thing (I can't actually remember Petunia saying anything prejudiced about nonmagical types).

And so the name "Dursley" will one day become one of those old, respected, wizarding families. I love it.

For some reason, I'm also now picturing grown up Parvati as looking like the Bollywood actress whose name I should remember but don't, the one in Bride and Prejudice and I Have Found It.

As for Regulus, I have three guesses -

1) Regulus hadn't died but had gone into hiding and came out of it to marry a girl, what, 44 years younger than him? If it was the Dark Ages, sure, it would make sense. Last remaining son of one of the most prominent pureblood families on the Voldemort side marries daughter of man who killed Voldemort and whose wife represents one of the most prominent pureblood families who opposed Voldemort. Age differences and actually liking each other lose out to politics and a high profile wedding burying the hatchet between the factions.

As it's not the Dark Ages, this is a very distant, somewhat icky possibility in my book.

2) Dumbledore said he thought Voldemort would want to capture and question anyone who made it to the cave horcrux. Ergo, being dragged by Inferi into a black lake is not a death sentence, it's a put-in-suspended-animation-in-the-lake sentence.

3) Regulus faked his own death but wound up stuck in some kind of suspended animation. In that case, I'd guess he had some safety measure that didn't work out (either that or he hadn't thought things through all the way). For example, he thought Sirius would figure things out (in which case I'm guessing he either left some clues he thought Sirius would figure out [but he didn't] or else he had a message for Sirius that never got to him) and revive him (all the Voldemort supporters would think he was dead and, if you can't trust a member of the Order of the Phoenix to revive you in Order of the Phoenix friendly territory rather than at a Death Eater meeting, your funeral probably isn't the only one they need to worry about.

I'm going to start writing the story pretty soon--it'll be long-ish one shot. Things aren't as they seem, but no suspended animation is involved. ;p

Wow, that's a lot of new names to keep straight! I'm excited for the stories of the Roost generation(s) as they emerge! Perhaps some of those stories will explain how Dudley and Parvati met and married! You do an incredible, and believable, job developing Harry and Dudley's relationship post-DH relationship, but I can't say I saw that particular wedding coming :)

Two additional questions out of curiosity. (1) Regulus Black lives? (2) Who do you see Neville marrying? (Personally, I'm convinced he marries a Muggle, but I'm still trying to figure her out...)

I picture him with someone he hasn't met yet, so an OC.

Regulus Black...

is that THE Regulus Black from the HP series, or someone named after the Regulus from canon?
Really Interesting... I've been reading your fics for ages now, Fern, and love them. :-) Your version of the next Generation is one of the most colourful, well rounded and well though-out series of fics that i've read - and by far my favourite... Thank you so much for carrying on my love of Harry Potter - it (nearly) makes me forget that canon is over! And your Teddy Lupin is my fave (well, kinda) OC that I've read.

Well done Fern now you have everyone and their dog wondering about how you are going to bring back our own Reggie. Personally my bet is on them having found one of the legs of the burnt spots. There were a couple that could still have had the Black surname.

But I think I prefer the idea of Reg coming back from the dead. I must admit I had to read that line twice because I saw Lily Potter and had this moment of "Oh dear, I think Fern has been at the mulled mead, she can't mean that Lily...." Then I realised that you didn't mean that Lily. And felt a bit sheepish.

maybe i'll try drawing a family tree??

Oh, fascinating! Is it wrong of me to hope that you'll one day write the story of how Dudley and Parvati met and hooked up?
fernwithy From: fernwithy Date: September 27th, 2007 11:02 am (UTC) (Link)
Well, they're both guests at Harry's in the Christmas chapter of Teddy--I assume that goes on for a few years, and at one point, both of them just feeling awkward, she suggests they go out for coffee. Dudley makes a crack about his parents' heads exploding. She points out that her parents won't exactly be thrilled about him, either. So they go out and kvetch about that, and end up going out again. And again. Nothing too thrilling!

I didn't feel like making up nearly a hundred people on the island for a story I'm not planning to write, Fern! I'm surprised at you! Where's your dedication to your art?

Kidding! Just kidding, seriously.

Thanks for the chart, but honestly, it didn't really help me much, lol. I can't imagine how you keep them all straight in your head.

Regulus was a player in school! Go Reg!</i> Wait! I originally thought that was Harry's mom (making Alphard Harry's older brother, which doesn't make any sense with respect to James Sr/Lily Sr's relationship in canon), but now I see he's married to Harry's DAUGHTER! *head explodes* That should be a great story...I can't imagine how you're going to pull it off, unless Regulus didn't really die shortly after he left school, but I'm sure it'll be a great ride that you take us on.

Whoops! Sorry, that strikethru should end after "Go Reg!". I guess I'm so used to using the italics code and I'm still to tired this morning to have caught that. Sorry, lol!

Andromeda Nymphadora? That's even worse than Albus Severus.

That's one child with issues...

True. But they named one after the grandmother and mother, so I guess they wanted to make sure it was balanced. They're generally called Polly and Ann.

Awesome! Woo hoo, more Regulus! Can't wait.

Also, Neville + Vivian = woo hoo!

I love this. I also love Sirius- "usually" lives alone. I am so glad the Lupinlets made it back in your 'verse, in one form or another. When I read that storylet, I may have made a sound that somewhat resembled "squee." :)

Hmm, any chance Neville and Vivian might have children? I ask because they seem to have strong paternal streaks (well, adult Neville does, and I somehow imagine adult Vivian with a thing about taking care of the cubs). They could adopt (although they might have to adopt Muggle children, which could be complicated, since wizard orphans seem to be in low supply when there isn't a war on). I wonder if magic adds extra complications to the issue of surrogate pregnancy?

On the issue of magic versus science, I wonder what would happen to a werewolf in space or on Mars, where there are two moons with a very different cycle from ours, or a planet with no moon at all? What happens to a werewolf _on_ the moon?

Sorry, just a stray thought kicking in after surrogate pregnancy.

You said that Regulus's granddaughter was Teddy's 3rd cousin, so wouldn't that make the Regulus you mentioned Teddy's first cousin? So does Draco have a brother? Or is it some other family member. Either it's way more confusing or you got the cousin number wrong. And I like how you made Keith and Gwen just on the side of okay, having them be third cousins. Though I agree with Victoire, it is a little weird. I've just finished "Forest Guard" and am now trying to read all the other stories, and see how they fit in. What's "Shift" (right title?) about and where can I find it (I only saw a few mentions in other's comments)? I really like the Teddy you've created, good job.

Re: Regulus?

Shifts is a parallel novel to OotP, in which Remus and Tonks initially fall in love. It and its HBP sequel, Shades, are here.

You said that Regulus's granddaughter was Teddy's 3rd cousin, so wouldn't that make the Regulus you mentioned Teddy's first cousin?

Nope--well, sort of. First cousin, twice removed.

It goes

Brother-Sister, then their children are first cousins to each other. Their grandchildren are second cousins to each other. Their great-grandchildren are third cousins. So the great-grandparents of a pair of third cousins were brother and sister, and the grandparents of a pair of third cousins were first cousins, so Regulus was the first cousin of Teddy's grandmother, two generations removed from Teddy. (Hence, 1st cousin, twice removed.)

Which, er, he was.

I haven't written the story explaining how that happened yet, but I promise, it will be adventurous and dreadfully exciting.
