Worst government acronym ever - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
Worst government acronym ever
Okay, so my BPL alert sent me this article about a meeting held at the library to discuss the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

Includes this quote that just made me snicker:
"I think the role of the BRA is to support the community."

Glad that got in under the wire. Cross my heart. ;p

< snerk > Didn't know they considered themselves a community. Down, girls, down!

Red Dwarf had fun with this acronymic problem with, "The Committee for the Liberation and Integration of Terrifying Organisms and their Rehabilitation Into Society."

Bunch of boobs. They need to keep more abreast of current trends. But, then, perhaps we are milking this issue more than it deserves.

This reminds me of the uniforms for women's vollyeball at the summer Olympics. All players had the first three letters of their country's name written across the sports bras they wore as part of their uniform. Brazil had a rather unfortunate abbreviation. :D

Hey, I'm sure all their employees *love* that acronym. "Where did you say you work?"

Brazil had a rather unfortunate abbreviation.

*grin* That was the first thing that came to my mind as well!

How can it be possible for that to be an accident??

'Under the wire'? 'Cross my heart'? LOL!

"Cross my heart" and hope to Lift and Separate.

My daughter attended Parkway East Middle School. Somehow, that "E" always seemed to get dropped out of their abbreviation.

Hmm... that's a doozy to be sure. I'm trying to decide if it tops this one.

In the early days of World War Two, the head of the US Navy was "Commander in Chief- United States" (That is to say, the entire US Navy, just like you had Commander in Chief-Pacific and Commander in Chief-Atlantic)

So, Pacific was Cincpac
Then, Atlantic was Cinclant

And the big cheese?

They changed it to Cominch

But let us never forget the Stadium Office Buildings (although that might be an urban legend they tell freshmen).
