Drabbles - The Phantom Librarian
Spewing out too many words since November 2003
For the 12 Grimmauld Place challenge at hp100

Title: Homecoming
House: Gryffindor
Word Count: 100
Characters: Sirius (PoA era)

Luckily, the only thing Gringott’s ever asked for was a key.

He padded up to the door when it appeared, but didn’t touch it. Instead, he pawed at a loose stone beneath the window.

The amulet he’d made years ago in Arithmancy was still nestled there. He pressed his nose against it and pushed it in.

The door opened silently. The bureau where Mum kept the Gringott’s keys was still there. Everything was as it had always been.

I could stay there, he thought. Mum’s dead; there’s no one to turn me in.

The thought filled him with deep revulsion.

House: Gryffindor
Word Count: 100
Characters: Andromeda, Remus (post-OotP)

Andromeda hadn’t spoken since she’d come into the house she’d just inherited, but Remus could see how white her knuckles were as she grasped her wand.

They entered the parlor, where Kreacher was fretting miserably at the family tree. Andromeda raised her wand at it.

“We’ve tried everything to get rid of it,” Remus said. “Every spell we could think of.”

She glared at him. “Restituo!” she cried.

Remus barely had time to mentally translate the spell—“restore”—when there was a blinding flash of light. Lines of fire raced around the room, re-writing hundreds of names in their wake.

Oh, I like these! Both of them, but especially the second. The final image is wonderfully vivid and powerful.

They're wonderful, especially the second. I like the idea of Andromeda's spell being enough to restore such a tattered family tree.

I love them both. :) The first one seems so true, and the second one is really interesting.

Yes, exactly that. Both of these are perfect. I love me some Angsty!Sirius. Well done - they both pack a lot of punch in a few words.

Oh my, they both were so powerful -- particularly the second one. I do like your Andromeda -- I hope I like JKR's half as much!

Ooh, I like these. I especially like how Andromeda clearly does not appreciate their "efforts" regarding the family tree. In OotP, it really disturbed me that they went on an absolute mission to destroy everything about the house that made it the Black home and tried to completely discard the family history along with anything that may actually have been dangerous. (I, too, like your Andromeda, both here and in Shifts.)

Restituo is great. I love the way you give Andromeda life in so few words, and the idea of restoring the family tree has a lot of roots in canon I think. Just look at what the Sorting Hat had to say for itself in OotP.

black house drabbles

These totally rock. Well done! I like both of them a lot. It actually took me reading through the comments to realize the import of the second, and allow me to really appreciate it. I guess my brain is getty fuzzy. ;S
